Breaking Barriers and Building Futures: Ashley's Success Story in revolutioniseSPORT's Internship Program Champions Gender Equity in Tech

View all · 07 Mar 2023 · revolutioniseSPORT

revolutioniseSPORT's internship program for aspiring engineers was not only a great learning experience for Ashley, but it was also a lot of fun. From collaborating with her team of fellow interns to working on real production software that contributed to the company's platform features, Ashley felt like she was part of a dynamic and engaging work environment.

As Ashley put it, "The company culture made the internship experience really nice and welcoming. It made me not absolutely dread going to work because of the fact that I actually liked the people and enjoyed their company." It's a sentiment that many interns can appreciate - a supportive and positive work environment can make all the difference in terms of job satisfaction and overall experience.

But it wasn't just the fun and camaraderie that made Ashley's internship so valuable. Working on real production software allowed her to gain hands-on experience and learn more about web development than she ever had before. It was an opportunity to see how the entire product development process worked, from back-end routes to front-end features.

This kind of experience is incredibly beneficial for interns, especially those who are just starting out in their careers. Not only does it provide valuable skills and knowledge, but it also helps interns gain confidence and a sense of direction in terms of their career prospects.

For Ashley, the program was a safe and welcoming environment that encouraged her to learn as much as possible. She felt that the gender ratio was about 50:50, with many of the non-tech staff also being female. As a woman in tech herself, she appreciated the opportunity to work in an inclusive and empowering environment.

The internship program was run by Chief Engineer Teresa Simonetti and Chief Product Officer Cass Simonetti, who both shared their thoughts on the bias against women in technology. Teresa said, "It's a pervasive problem, but I believe we can overcome it by being intentional and providing opportunities for women to thrive in tech."

Cass added, "Diversity is not just about ticking boxes. It's about creating an environment where people can bring their unique perspectives and experiences to the table, which ultimately leads to better products and services."

Overall, Ashley's experience with revolutioniseSPORT's internship program was inclusive, educational, and fun. For anyone considering a future internship at revolutioniseSPORT, her advice is simple: "Have fun, get work done, stay back if you need to, and ask loads of questions." It's advice that anyone can take to heart, no matter what their career goals may be.
