Dragon Boat Paddlathon

Published Fri 16 Feb 2018

Everyone has mental health, just as we have physical health.

We are so often reminded of the importance of physical health for wellbeing and the risks of illness resulting from a sedentary lifestyle and bad nutritional choices. Little is discussed about our mental health. What is it? How can we improve it? How do our lifestyle choices impact it? Mental health is a term so often reserved to describe someone with an ‘illness’ or ‘issue’.

In Australia:

Suicide is the leading cause of death in young people and the cause of 1 in 3 deaths across all ages. In the last 12 months, 1 in 4 young people have experienced mental health issues. 75% of mental health issues emerge before the age of 25.

Rally 4 Research in conjunction with Sydney Zodiacs aim to re-position mental health in our community, elevating it to share the stage with physical health as something we can all strive to improve for wellbeing and happiness.

Dragon boating is the ultimate team sport inciting social camaraderie, team spirit and a sense of family among its community. We invite people of all ages to join us for the inaugural dragon boat Paddlathon and get paddles up for mental wellbeing.

Event: Dragon Boat Paddlathon

When and Where: 5 Bank Street, Pyrmont. Sunday 25th March. 7am – 7pm

The event is raising funds for Black Dog Institute, a national research institute that aims to reduce the incidence of mental illness, and Headspace, the national youth mental health support foundation.
