Perfect time to start eSailing on Virtual Regatta - free to play
Now is the perfect time to start eSailing with Virtual Regatta, especially with the temporary closure of so many clubs and centres and everyone having to stay at home. It’s a fantastic way to stay in touch and continue racing and practice your racing tactics from your own home.
For individuals
You don’t need to pay to use Virtual Regatta. It’s as simple as visiting their website from a laptop or PC or downloading the app on a smartphone or iPad and clicking ‘play now’ on either the inshore or offshore game. You can then enter the game and learn how to use it and compete against others all around the world. If you want to compete and keep your score, you’ll need to create a login and a user profile. You also have the option of entering the eSailing World Sailing Championship races.
For clubs, classes, training centres and other groups
Throughout these challenging times, we’re aware that clubs, classes, training centres and groups up and down the country are undoubtedly thinking of ways to keep their members and customers engaged whilst adhering to the Government guidelines and staying at home. Many of you have already been in touch seeking advice on how eSailing might be able to provide some online fun whilst other organised activity may have been cancelled.
Organising private custom races
if you wish to organise races for your members, clients, squads, friends or other groups you need will need to subscribe to a VIP pass so you can set up private 'custom' races. This will cost $14.99 for a month and allows you to run unlimited races for up to 20 people at a time. Keeping safe online
We hope and trust that everyone will enjoy eSailing with Virtual Regatta safely and responsibly, treating other competitors of all ages with respect. If a young person aged under 18 feels uncomfortable or intimidated by any message received via Virtual Regatta, they can find useful contact details, advice and information here. How to purchase the VIP pass
You’ll need to visit the Virtual Regatta website or download the app and create a user profile. You will then need to take the following steps:-
1. Go to the game store by clicking on the basket in the top right of the home screen
2. Select the 1 Month VIP Membership subscription.
3. Confirm your choice by tapping the green button, then proceed to payment.
Note: The subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.

RYA eSailing Spring Club Championships
With the racing proving extremely popular the RYA has decided to introduce the 'RYA eSailing Spring Club Championship' that will allow all competitors the chance to compete for the title of not only RYA eSailing Regional Spring Club Champion but also RYA eSailing Spring Club National Champion over the next few weeks.
Clubs will need to run their own Club Championships, with a maximum of 20 competitors per race which will need to be completed by 03 May 2020. If Clubs receive more than 20 entries, then please see guidance on how clubs can allow all competitors to compete using qualifying rounds and finals.
Winners from the Club Championships will go forward to a Regional Final. The top competitor from each RYA Region will go forward to a National Final. To enter the Club Championships, a representative from a club needs to enter their club’s details here:-

The free VIP pass offer from Virtual Regatta closed on the 01 April so if you would like to take part and missed out on the offer, you will need to purchase a VIP pass for £8.99 for one month. Only one VIP pass is required to run custom races for your club.

The crème of British sailing, both amateur and full-time, are set for another showdown on Wednesday (15 April) at 16:00 BST online within the Virtual Regatta Inshore game. This time it’s all to play for as they jostle and compete for five places in the final of the RYA and YachtsandYachting.com’s ‘The Lockdown Cup’ which will take place on Wednesday, 22 April. Within the final they will compete against five members of the public who will be selected from over hundreds of online applications that are being received. The applications will be filtered using a criteria covering everything from experience of using the Virtual Regatta Inshore game to their motivation to beat the best of the UK dinghy scene over the next few days to select the five challengers.The races will once again be live streamed and can be viewed athttps://youtu.be/f0l-1F9XjA4
The RYA are pleased to be partnering once again with World Sailing and Virtual Regatta, the leading digital sailing platform, for the GBR eSailing National Championship 2020. The free-to-play online game provides players with the opportunity to race against friends, fellow sailors and real-world Olympic Champions.
The eSailing season was launched on the 29th Febrauary at the RYA Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace.
All players from the United Kingdom will automatically be entered into the exclusive GBR eSailing National Championship, racing the same challenges, seasons and playoffs as the eSailing World Championship and ranking both nationally and globally.
The season will end on 01 September 2020. We are hoping to run a live final with the top ten ranking British eSailors on Saturday 19th September 2020 in Southampton where the 2020 GBR eSailing National Champion will be crowned.
Could you be crowned champion? Simply visit www.virtualregatta.com or download the ‘Virtual Regatta Inshore’ App from the App Store or Google Play. The top ten ranked GBR eSailors will automatically qualify for the eSailing World Championship Finals Playoff taking place in early September, with the top eight advancing to the 2020 eSailing World Championship Final.
Governed by the World Sailing Virtual Rules of Sailing, the eSailing World Championship closely matches the real-world rules and formats that govern on-the-water racing. The in-game ‘Sailing School’ provides a clear explanation of the sport and a new and effective learning tool to familiarise players with the strategies, tactics and terminology of sailing.
