Wyong Water Polo - Senior Country Clubs

Published Wed 29 Jan 2025

Our club had both a Women's and Men's team contest the Annual WPNSW Country Club championships over the Australia Day weekend. Our men took on the Div 2 competition, where they won GOLD in 2024. Back to defend their title, it was clear the other clubs had some vengeance on their mind. Their results:

10-6 Loss to Illawarra

9-4 Loss to Gosford

11-10 Loss to Far North Coast

7-4 Loss to Newcastle University

The boys played some seriously good polo and were competitive in all games. For a team consisting of a mixture of youth and older players, they performed well and did our club proud.

Our ladies perhaps had a more successful tournament, finishing 2nd at the conclusion of the pool rounds. Their results:

4-3 Win vs Albury Sharks

7-4 Win vs Woy Woy Wombats

7-3 Win vs ANU Owls

12-2 Loss vs Gosford

Our ladies went on to the semi finals where they lost a tough match 10-7 to Albury Sharks. This meant that our ladies were playing for Bronze!

The ladies start slow and at one stage found themselves down 7-2. They showed grit and determination to claw themselves back into the game at 9-9 with just 20 seconds to go. Unfortunately, Woy Woy scored on the buzzer to take the bronze.

Well done to both teams and huge thanks to our referees, coache's and all supporters.

We can't wait for Country Clubs next year!
