WHA Umpire Academy (WUA)

The Whyalla Hockey Association (WHA) is looking to create a positive culture around umpiring. Too often it's seen as a chore that people have to do, and not an important skill that should be recognised. It's also important to make umpiring an attractive proposition - whether that's with positive incentives or by removing disincentives (often player, coach and crowd behaviour).

The purpose of the Umpire Academy is to:

Provide our umpires with support in their umpiring duties
Build a network with our regional Associations
Assist in mentoring and development opportunities,
Assist our members to continue to improve their umpiring skills and/or learn to umpire
Establish a communication path to our Hockey SA Zone Umpiring Developer

In addition the WUA will:

Ensure umpires present themselves in the right gear
Schedule games for training in Whyalla and in other regional centres
Introduce four Umpire Encouragement Awards for our Junior umpires.

The Association has some good umpires and would like to continue to support their growth and the development of new umpires by providing a single easy avenue to access umpiring information and resources.
