Summer Urban Rogaines
Summer Urban Rogaines 2025
Thursday evenings for 8 weeks: 13 February to 3 April, at varying locations around Whangarei City
Starts from 5.30pm to 6pm. (The trailer and supporting club members may leave the event centre anytime from 7.15 pm.)
These are 60 minute urban rogaines utilising the Maprun ap. You will be given a map, which has 20 available controls, each worth 20 points. Collect as many controls as you can in 60 minutes. Every minute or part minute back late will incur a 10 point penalty. The "winner" is the person or team who scores the most points. If there is a tie on points then the placings are ranked by the shortest time.
Ideally register online and pay by bank deposit and help us by using "the event name " in the reference and " your surname" in the particulars. Please record the names of all team members when you register. We will take registratrions and payments on the day, but if you can, registering and paying online will help us, especially with knowing how many maps to print.
Bring a highlighter and a watch/timer. A high visibility top is encouraged, consider sun protection and water if it is hot.
Fees for each event
Members - $5 per individual/team or $15 per family
Non Members - $10 per individual/team or $25 per family
There is a maximum of 2 adults per team entry fee but we are happy for larger groups to run together. Either enter extra teams or just increase your entry fee payment and we will give you extra maps.
Before the event, ensure you have the ap MapRun 7.5.5 downloaded on your phone
On the day, check in at registration to confirm you are starting and the number/names of people in your group.
At registration you will receive a map and a pin code to start the maprun ap.
Plan your course (bring a highlighter to help you with this)
When you are ready, go to the start (triangle marked on the map and hopefully a green banner flag) Take care to see where the finish is (double circles marked on the map and hopefully a red banner flag) Do not to cross the finish until you actually want to finish.
Take care crossing the roads and avoid crossing private land. Adults must supervise your young children.
Maprun Instructions:
Maprun is a free app you install on your smartphone and will record the control locations using GPS. You carry a paper map to navigate and providing you have arrived at the correct location your phone will beep and register the control.
Installation:
Download the MapRun app from either the App or Playstore (V 7.5.8). The first time you open the App you will need to click on Name and enter a few basic details.
Open MapRun click on events near me and you will see the event, click on it and it will download to your phone.
When you are ready to start click on Go To Start. It will ask for a pin number which will be supplied at the event.
Your position will be shown on your phone up until you get to the start location, when your phone beeps your time starts and your location will no longer show on your phone. Use the paper map to navigate. When you arrive at a control location your phone should beep.
At the end of the event you must go to the finish location for MapRun timing to stop.
Important Notes:
Remember you must have location and mobile data turned on (uses a very small amount of data)
Once you have started and registered the first control location do not pass back through the finish (unless you are finishing). This will cause your time to stop as MapRun will think you have finished.
If you are sure you are at the correct location but your phone does not beep just leave and carry on. We can see from your track after and add the control to your result. This only happens beacuse some phones may not be as accurate as others.
Remember to visit the finish location at the end of your run for the timing to stop. You can then upload your result and see how you did.
