Who are Whitsunday Athletics?

Whitsunday Athletics is a small non-for-profit sporting organisation which is run by a group of volunteers consisting of a committee, coaches and parents and caregivers. It was established in the 1970’s and has had a solid membership since. It caters to all levels of athletes from 4 yrs old to Masters. Little Athletics was also a part of the community in the 1980’s and 1990s but folded due to lack of volunteer support.

Whitsunday Athletics offers a wide range of events from running, jumping and throwing and modified age-appropriate events for the younger ones. Training is once a week and Club Day is Friday afternoon for the participants to measure their hard work. The past few years we had more than 50 athletes be apart of our community and many travel together to events all over the Queensland and smoke making state and national level. Rockhampton, Mackay, Emerald, Bowen, Townsville and Cairns carnivals we have attended and with your support can keep attending by sponsoring.

Affiliation Information with Athletics North Queensland

Athletics North Queensland (ANQ) was founded in 1996 to provide athletes in the North Queensland region with a united voice. Our aim has always been to address the specific needs of regional athletic clubs and their members. This is achieved through regular competitions, specialist coaching clinics, officials training and education along with technical support to member clubs. In 2002, Road Running clubs and Defence Force athletes joined the traditional track and field clubs. In 2020, Qrun – the running hub Queensland is now offered to in North Queensland.
ANQ continues to promote the participation of our sport ‘athletics’ within North Queensland through the idea that athletics is fun, enjoyable, yet competitive. We help our clubs to increase members by visiting schools and community groups within their regions with an aim to promote the local clubs. ANQ supports clubs with resources to cater for athletes from the ages of three through to masters.
ANQ attracts national and international athletic events to the region, promoting and developing all aspects of athletics in North Queensland. World class facilities exist in Cairns and Townsville, Mackay and will soon expand to other areas in the ANQ region. Thanks to the support of our coaches and officials, along with the facilities that we have to offer, ANQ endeavours to continue producing world class athletes in the future.
Within Athletics North Queensland there are a number of Road Running Clubs that regularly hold competitions throughout the North Queensland Region. Road Running Clubs enable an expansive number of participants to compete in organised social and competitive events that are outside of athletic stadia and tracks. They organise competitions from as little as 4km to half and full marathons, road running members are also welcomed to come at any the competitions held in other areas in events from 800m to 5000m and steeple chase events.

Athletics North Queensland is the fastest growing, most progressive athletic area in Australia. We have over 3200 registered members.
ANQ consists of a total of 41 clubs. Each club has set training days and a competition venue, as well as established committees, coaches, and officials.
