Rescue Boats

   Rescue Boats

Please remember that when operating the boats they are your responsibility and you must take all due care and be responsible for using the boat diligently and preventing avoidable damage to these items.

All boats are to be washed and cleaned thoroughly before being stored.

BI 08 - Foreshore Patrol

A white Sirocco MX-410/ORAB-11Y Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB), approximately a 13 foot aluminum hull with a shallow to medium Vee with a 40HP Merc motor.  It has a center seat up the hull, so you can’t stand up to drive, so it's pretty uncomfortable.  Is the most used for all events for following the fleet around and for rescue if needed, and it is a fantastic coaching boat.

  •     As a shorter RIB the trailer doesn't get far into the water.  This boat must be hand winched on to the trailer and must never be driven on.  it’s a 2 person job to retrieve, 1 to hold,1 to winch it on, an awkward job in sloppy conditions.
  •     The motor needs to idle for about a minute.
  •     The boat needs to be washed inside and out to get all the salt of it.
  •     The trailer needs the hose connected to the wash system just under the winch.

BI 09 - Reef Rescue

A small white RIB and is mainly used for Tackers training and rescue.

  •     This boat is put on and off its dolly by hand normally by 2 people with the trailer right in the water so you don’t lift all of its weight.
  •     The motor is flushed by placing the back of the boat up to the flushing tank in the boat wash area and lowering the motor and running it for about 1 minute at idle speed.
  •     The boat itself just needs a rinse and rub with soft broom or your hand to get the salt off.

BI 10 - Westernport Rescue

An older red Zodiac PRO 7 MAN RIB and is the used as a backup for BI8 and additional mid-sized RIB for larger events.  It has an approximately 13 foot fiberglass hull with a Medium Vee hull and a 40HP Honda motor.  With the stand up center console in the center point of the hull, balance and handling are fantastic.  This makes it great for coaching, it's zippy so great for getting up close to yachts when they are underway.  It is limited in rough water, at planing speeds it's not a lot of fun outside the reef.  Being able to stand up to drive makes it bearable in a chop - better than most 13 foot boats.

BI 11 - Balnarring Rescue

A bigger red Zodiac PRO 12 MAN RIB that is used on bigger events as a rescue boat and when we have 2 courses set up it becomes the start boat as well as rescue boat.  The approximately 17 foot fiberglass hull has a deep vee, deadrise is around 18>21 degrees.  It is powered by a 90HP Honda 4 stroke fitted in 2021.  It is very sea worthy and can handle a mean chop.

  •     This boat is quite a bit harder to drive due to the weight of the motor.
  •     This boat needs deeper water to get it off and on the trailer, but it is a very easy boat to drive onto the trailer.
  •     The motor is flushed by using the muffs that are in the boat and put in from the prop side.
  •     The motor needs to idle for 1 minute.
  •     The boat needs to be washed inside and out to get all the salt of it.
  •     The trailer needs the hose connected to the wash system just under the winch.

If it's too rough to put this in, we won't be sailing!  With this RIB you can rescue in any weather.

BI 12 - Tulum

A big yellow aluminum boat.

  •     This is our start boat used for setting the race course and starting all division races with the race officer onboard.
  •     It will then follow the last boat and pick up the course markers.
  •     This is not our rescue boat unless it is an absolute emergency.
  •     The boat is drive on and drive off the trailer with the motor out of the sand but in the water.
  •     This motor needs the hose connected to the rear of the motor and flushed for 2 minutes and does not have to run.
  •     The boat generally needs to be washed inside and out as well as the anchor well.
  •     It also needs all seaweed to be left out at sea not in the boat.
  •     The trailer needs to be connected to the wash system just below the winch.

BI 17 - Adam's Rib

A mid-sized white RIB used as a backup for BI10 and additional mid-sized RIB for larger events.

  •     This boat must be hand winched on to the trailer and must never be driven on.
  •     The motor needs to idle for about a minute.
  •     The boat needs to be washed inside and out to get all the salt of it.
  •     The trailer needs the hose connected to the wash system just under the winch.

All boats must have their checklists filled in before they leave the yard and completed when they return. Make sure your name and date are on these forms and do not leave the yard if you are missing anything. The forms are on the white bench in the boat shed and must be left there after your return and all packed up.

Important for all of our boats is the need to keep the motors out of the sand. Everytime the motor goes in the sand it destroys the water pumps and the eventually the motor.

Please trim the motors up when in close to shore!!!!!!

All boats must be unloaded at the end of each day

How do you get a wet tired sailor into a RIB?
