WYC is a volunteer club that thrives when all members contribute to our club activities.
It is a general expectation of both joining and ongoing membership that everyone make some effort for the overall good and function of the Club every season.
This includes sailing/racing, training/tackers, working bees and social functions.
It is unfortunately too often the case that a small number of members carry an unfair burden, and the risk is that if these good people are not available, we may all miss out.
For some years now, we have used Find My Shift to allow members to self-roster. This has the benefit of enabling members to do club duty at a time that suits them.
Generally there is an expectation that all sailors do a minimum of one duty per series. Duty points are awarded on the basis of your series average.
This season we shall again open up the Find My Shift option in the pre-season. However, a difference this season will be that:
- Any remaining gaps will be filled from the available pool of sailors. This is my job as rear-commodore and I really don’t want to have to do it so get in early!!
- To be eligible for any trophies/places in a series a sailor will have to have done at least one duty.
Perhaps some of you are concerned about not knowing what to do? Rest assured, there will always be plenty of support and instruction. Furthermore, we will again be running very relaxed instructional courses in the pre-season period (October 3rd and 9th 2021).
Find My Shift will is now open - first in, best dressed. On Oct 1 the committee will fill remaining gaps in the roster.
