125 State Titles

Published Wed 13 Mar 2019

The 125 State tiltes consisted of 5 races held within the reef with each race lasting around 50 minutes. The first 2 races on the Saturday were run in good conditions with winds about 10 knots. Sunday morning saw the running of 2 more races but in slightly lighter winds. It was then decided to run one longer race outside the reef on Sunday afternoon. The boats all headed out with the wind sitting at around 10 knots. Unfortunately as we were trying to set the course in shifting winds things blew up. The wind built to 20 -25 knots with a couple of higher gusts. Several boats capsized as we sent everyone to shore. It was a busy 15 - 30 minutes as all our rescue fleet plus committee boat and control tower kept an eye on all sailors with all the swimmers on our ribs entering the water to assist with the righting of several boats. Everyone returned to shore and signed off with amazingly very little damage as all boats were back on the water the next day. A great effort by all.

Monday morning couldn't have been more different. The boats headed out in less than 5 knots in the hope of 2 races. We finally got a start in around 5 knots and eventually shortened course in the 5th race of the weekend before the time limit was reached.

Thanks for a good weekend
