THE GRIGORYAN BROTHERS

‘Amistad’ is the new album from acclaimed guitar duo, the Grigoryan Brothers.

With a repertoire spanning centuries, continents, and genres, displaying amazing telepathy and the ability to evoke emotion from every note, Slava & Leonard Grigoryan are justifiably regarded as Australia’s finest classical guitarists.

Throughout their musical journey spanning over two decades, Slava and Leonard have forged connections with like-minded souls worldwide. Each track on ‘Amistad’, released by Decca, is a gift from composers met during their travels, some tailored specifically for the brothers, while others find new life through their unique interpretations.

Contributions have come from such diverse composers as Cuban guitarist Leo Brouwer, legendary jazz guitarist Ralph Towner, Sting's guitarist Dominic Miller, guitarist Gus Isidore (Seal, Peter Gabriel), Australian neo-classical pianists Luke Howard and Nat Bartsch, and more.

Crafted with love, respect, and a profound understanding, these compositions symbolise the reciprocal appreciation between the composers and the Grigoryan Brothers. Amistad, meaning 'friendship' in Spanish, is a celebration of camaraderie — a project resonating with respect and connection, a heartfelt tribute from the brothers.

This special performance for Peninsula SongRiders will feature music from Amistad and favourites from their past recordings.

Between them, they have received 4 ARIA awards (Australian Recording Industry Association) and an incredible 25 ARIA Award nominations. As a duo they have recorded 12 albums.

They have been touring internationally since 2003, regularly performing throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA, as well as performances in Brazil, South Africa, India and the Middle East.

Collaborations are another important part of Slava and Leonard’s musical journey.  Individually and as a duo, they have collaborated and worked with many luminaries such as Paco Pena, Ralph Towner, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Luke Howard and Joseph Tawadros.

Their prolific recording output includes film soundtracks and duo interpretations of music by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Faure and many more.

After touring the world, recording and performing together for over 20 years, their focus of late has been more and more on developing new repertoire, either by penning their own works or commissioning respected peers to create new music for them.

'We are very honoured to have the Grigoryan Brothers come down to play in our neck of the live music loving woods. This unique experience will be top shelf, so please grab your tickets early to this PSR exclusive, they will sell-out quickly.' :)Marty

TOM WATERS (UK) & GEOFF ACHISON (AUS)

“Brush with the Blues” Tour

Tom Waters is a UK saxophone prodigy & Geoff Achison an icon of the Australian Blues scene who hails from Frankston. The pair first met on Geoff’s last UK tour when, performing near Tom’s home in Dorset, they were introduced by mutual friends. They wound up playing together and the audience reaction was such that they decided to do it again….this time in Australia! So, here they find themselves at the Westernport Yacht Club on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula conducting a tour dedicated to the late Jeff Beck who composed the song that the tour is named after. It’s a number that Geoff loves playing and Tom has actually played with Jeff Beck at London’s Ronnie Scott’s.

“Brush with the Blues” is a unique showcase of Blues, Country, Rock & Funky Jazz. Both artists bring their own catalogues of original music to the project and will play them alongside some classic roots gems in a celebration of their amazing musical talents.

“A regular visitor to Australia, Saxophonist Tom Waters is one of London’s most heralded young performers and son of acclaimed UK pianist Ben Waters, already highly accomplished and with regular residencies in all the hot spots. A graduate of London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Music, he has recorded with chart-topping bands and rock ‘n roll legends such as the Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Ray Davies, Ronnie Wood’s Mad Lads, the BB King All Stars, Free Nationals & Broken Social Scene. Now a regular with Jools Holland’s R&B Orchestra, Waters has been named by the UK Blues Federation as one of the UK’s top 5 “Young Blues Artists of the Year for 2024. Tom’s first album with contributions from Jools Holland (UK), the Cinelli Brothers (UK Blues Band of the year), Airel Posen (US) and, of course, Geoff Achison launches in Oct ’24.”

“Geoff Achison is a multi-award-winning Australian blues-roots singer-songwriter renowned for his guitar playing. Geoff began his apprenticeship with legendary Australian bluesman 'Dutch' Tilders, establishing himself as a fine lead guitarist before launching ‘The Souldiggers’. Drawing upon deep blues, soul, funk and acoustic folk influences, he released his debut album in the early 90s and began touring throughout the USA, UK & Europe. Geoff's music has been favourably compared to major artists such as Eric Clapton, JJ Cale and the Allman Brothers Band and he is about to launch his 14th album”

“Geoff is one of the finest blues guitarists I know with a completely individual style” Jorma Kaukonen, Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna

“What makes him unique is not only his instrumental skills but also his multifaceted approach” Alison Richter ~Guitar World

Achison seems more like a singer / songwriter’s soul in Jeff Beck’s body” Elmore Magazine

“Tom’s the Tops” – Jools Holland

“A fantastic musician” – Sir Ray Davies
