On Sunday morning, August 11th, 2024, we hosted the WLSC Coaching Clinic 4.0 at Northmead Squash Centre. Once again, we were fortunate to have three of Sydney’s top squash coaches - Sarah Nelson, Cameron McElroy, and Peter Bastow - leading small group sessions where every participant received personalized attention from each coach.
The clinic was a tremendous success, offering all members a unique chance to elevate their game and boost their fitness.
Highlights for the clinic were:
- Cameron McElroy's 'Ball Machine' - This fires a pre-heated squash ball at a set velocity and angle so players can practice the same stroke consistently
- Peter Bastow's 'Speed Checker' - This device measures the ball speed of your shot. Just for the record, coach Cameron McElroy got the top speed at an incredible 179 km/h on his forehand. Notable mentions go to Mark Forland & Bernie Worsley!
Feedback:
- JM: I really enjoyed the clinic this morning. Had a great time & learnt heaps.
- MF: Had a great time, realised how unfit I actually am. It was harder at times than playing a match. What a great concept and an awesome opportunity to engage and be coached by some of our best players and coaches. I would do it again.
- RC: A great clinic. Now to implement what we learnt!. Please pass on my thanks to Sarah, Cameron and Peter - all different but very helpful and positive in their instructions and feedback. It was harder than playing a match as no/little rest given by the coaches and definitely would do again and again.
- RS: A great morning! Excellent coaching, it is going to be somewhat difficult to change 60 years of bad habits but we will try!!
- SN (Coach): Positive and enjoyable day for me. Thanks everyone. Certainly, saw some great improvements with some minor adjustments. Remember it for your next hit....and get your racket up!
- PB (Coach): Another great day of assisting people with their game and passing on numerous improvement tips.Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves and got plenty out of the sessions.
Quote of the Day:
- TB: Was a great morning, but oh my, I've got some seriously sore muscles today!
Here’s the group photo of the members who attended, alongside our dedicated coaches. Don’t be deceived by the smiles—after 1.5 hours of intense training, there were plenty of tired but satisfied players!
And so, if you we're unable to attend this clinic, don't worry. We're holding our next Coaching Clinic 5.0 in February 2025. So keep an eye out for details on how to register.
Cheers,
John Musumeci, WLSC President
