A Piece of History: Ted Nugent’s 1967 Winning WLSC Jacket

Published Wed 04 Dec 2024

Wenty Leagues Squash Club is proud to announce an exciting addition to its memorabilia collection: Ted Nugent’s 1967 Wenty Leagues Squash Club Jacket. This iconic jacket holds a special place in our club’s history, commemorating the 1967 Spring Pennant victory in Grade B3.

Ted Nugent was part of a legendary team that brought glory to the club. The team roster included notable players like Chris Fitchener, Tommy Croghan (a member of Wenty’s Footy Team of the Century), Len Clarke, and Ken Darke. Back in 1967, the club fielded eight teams across multiple grades, showcasing the depth of talent and passion for squash that has defined Wenty Leagues Squash Club for decades.

The Journey of the Jacket

Ted, who now resides near Toronto, New South Wales, made a special effort earlier this month to coordinate a visit to Sydney. While visiting his sister in Rooty Hill, Ted met with Club Vice President Rob Spooner at Wenty Leagues Club to formally hand over the jacket.

Ted shared his relief at knowing the jacket would be preserved and cherished as a vital piece of the club’s history. He expressed his concern that the jacket might have been discarded if not for its new home:
"The idea of throwing it out concerned me," Ted said.

Rob Spooner assured him that the jacket would be given a place of honor in the display cabinet at Wenty Leagues Club, where members and visitors alike can admire its historical significance.

Preserving Our Legacy

This jacket is more than a piece of clothing; it represents a pivotal moment in the club’s history and celebrates the achievements of the players who wore it with pride. It now joins our collection of treasured memorabilia, which was prominently featured at our 60th Anniversary Celebration earlier this year.
