Spring Pennant Grand Finals Recap

On November 27, we concluded the Spring Pennant Grand Finals at Northmead with exciting results across all four divisions:

·         Division 1: Wenty 01 (Peter, Lyndal & Barry) beat Wenty 02 (Danny, Clive & Mehdi).

·         Division 2: Wenty 08 (Paul, Leigh & Roslyn) beat Wenty 07 (Bernard, Phi & Chris).

·         Division 3: Wenty 10 (Jag, Gillian & Tabitha) beat Premier 03 (Sean, David & Rodney).

·         Division 4: Wenty 13 (Irene, Linda & Mario) beat Wenty 14 (Rob, John & Irene).

Congratulations to all players for their effort and sportsmanship!

Club Person of the Year Voting Opens

Voting for the prestigious Ken Darke Trophy is officially open! This award recognizes a member who exemplifies dedication, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude. Voting cards are available at events and via email for those unable to attend. Nominations close on March 2, 2025, with the winner announced at the Annual Presentation Dinner on March 9, 2025.

New Wenty Leagues Club Service Awards for Committee Members

We honour 5 incredible members for 15 or 25 years of continuous service to the club:

·         Ken Darke: Founding member, past president, and life member.

·         Elwyn Griffiths: Former captain and president with a remarkable 27 years of leadership.

·         Rhonda Rumble: Long-serving treasurer for 17 years.

·         Chris Mitrovich: Dedicated Club Captain and competition organizer.

·         Wendy Fox: Vice-Captain, event coordinator, and sportswear designer.

These awards were presented at the Sub Club Dinner on December 1, 2024. Photos to come.

Col Mower Award

Congratulations to Monica Rigby for winning the 2024 Col Mower Award, recognizing her outstanding contribution to NSW Masters Squash.

New Memorabilia

The club has received a historic addition to its memorabilia collection: Ted Nugent’s 1967 Wenty Leagues Squash Club Jacket. This iconic piece will be displayed in our cabinet at the Leagues Club.

Code of Conduct Reminder

Vice-President Rob Spooner recently highlighted the importance of sportsmanship on and off the court. Unsportsmanlike behaviour not only affects matches but also threatens our sponsorships and club reputation. Let’s all work together to maintain a respectful and enjoyable environment.

Transition to MySquashAUS Platform

After months of preparation, we’re transitioning to the MySquashAUS competition system in 2025. Key features include live match scoring, automatic rating updates, and simplified registration processes. Stay tuned for updates on the Autumn Pennant setup.

2025 Events Calendar and Apparel

·         The 2025 Events Calendar is now available on the website. Download your copy or view events directly online.

·         Exciting new club apparel (sweatshirts, pants, and bags) will launch mid-2025, with pre-orders opening soon.

As we step into 2025, we have an exciting lineup of events planned for our members.

·         Club Championships Throughout February 2025.
Participate in divisional championships with the option to compete in higher divisions for added challenge and fun.

·         Autumn Pennant Starts 1^st week of March 2025, Grand Finals on July 2, 2025.
The first Pennant competition of the year, running for 15 weeks.

·         Annual Presentation Dinner Sunday, March 16, 2025.
Celebrate the achievements of the year, including Pennant winners, Club Championship winners, Service Awards recipients, and the Club Person of the Year.

·         Player’s Clinic 5.0 Saturday, March 15, 2025.
A new and improved format with practical tips shared by the club’s best players.

·         Social Night Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
A relaxed evening of squash during the Easter split round, offering members a chance to enjoy friendly matches.

·         Inter-Club Challenge: TLC Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Toongabbie.
A competitive and social event as part of our ongoing challenge with the TLC club.

·         Inter-Club Challenge: Canterbury Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Belmore.
A friendly yet spirited matchup with Canterbury Squash Club.

·         Social Event Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
Enjoy a fun squash event during the Pennant break, perfect for players to stay active.

·         Player’s Clinic 6.0 Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Another opportunity to refine your skills with advice tailored to your playing style and level.

·         Spring Pennant Begins August 2025, Grand Finals on November 26, 2025.
The next exciting round of team competition to showcase your skills and teamwork.

·         Rules Night Monday, September 22, 2025.
An educational evening at the Leagues Club with a guest referee speaker to enhance your knowledge of squash rules.

·         Social Day 7.0 Saturday, October 18, 2025.
A lively and fun-filled day of squash, perfect for all members looking to enjoy some friendly matches.

·         Inter-Club Challenge Return Leg Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Northmead.
A chance to host Canterbury Squash Club for the return leg of our inter-club competition.

·         Spring Pennant Grand Finals Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Witness the culmination of the Spring competition as teams vie for victory.

·         End of Year Celebration Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Pavilion.
Wrap up the year with awards, recognition, and festivities in our traditional celebration.
