I hope your Christmas was restful and you had plenty of diving included.

We are looking forward to seeing photos from the Dec/Jan break and hearing tales of great dives, community and future plans, at the club night.

Please note the change to a Wednesday night as the Clare Castle was already booked. This is a once off change from a Tuesday to Wednesday night on the 3rd week of the month.

This month's guest speaker is one of our life members, Des Williams. Many of you have heard Des present before and his talks are always engrossing and I anticipate this will be another one. Here is a little sample from Des about "Victorian Ships Graveyard 50 years on";

"During the 1970s & 80s, there were over 30 private recreational diving clubs in Victoria. The Geelong Skindivers Club (GSC), spearheaded by Geoff Nayler, was particularly adventurous in the early 1970s. Their first exploratory dive into the ships’ graveyard off Barwon Heads was in October 1972, and this dive changed the face of Victorian recreational diving. With over 30 vessels scuttled in the area, it quickly became extremely popular with local diving clubs, which in turn grew and improved recreational scuba diving in this State. In November 2022, the Southern Ocean Exploration team took four of the original GSC divers out to the graveyard to celebrate 50 years on. Des, will present a salute to those early pioneer divers, illustrated with images of both the first and 50th graveyard dives supplied by Geoff Nayler and SOE. Jim Anderson from the GSC will also attend the meeting (via Zoom) and will be available to answer any questions."

Following the presentation will be the photo competition, events, news and travel.

Attendance and Registration

The meeting will be held at The Clare Castle, 354 Graham St, Port Melbourne, VIC 3207. Meet at 7pm for dinner. Meeting will start at 8pm.
