You are invited to attend the First Aid and O2 course that will be run over two days over the weekend of the 25th and 26th June at the Coast Guard Training Facility based at the St Kilda Marina.

As we have most of the boats in the Club equiped with Oxygen, and are starting to build up our inventory of AED units, it is really important that Club Members are trained in how to use this equipment properly. The equipment by itself cannot save a life. People who have previously been trained by Michael have said it is some of the best first aid training that they have ever done. Even if you have a current certificate, it would be worth thinking about attending this as you are bound to learn a lot of material that may not have been covered in your previous training.

This training will be conducted under PADI RTO and will be far more comprehensive and relevant than the normal, OH&S first aid training that is typically offered through workplaces for compliance purposes. On completion, attendees will be provided with relevant training certifications that are likely to satisfy the training requirements for many workplaces and other activities.

This training will be conducted by Michael Bennet from Challenging Pursuits. Michael is a qualified Paramedic, Emergency Rescue Technician and Secondary teacher. He has been instructing in first aid, pre-hospital emergency care, swimming, and life-saving for over 35 years. He was a member of the Royal Life Saving Society (now Life Saving Victoria) “Oxygen and Technical Panels", providing recommendations on first aid, oxygen administration and training for patrolling lifesaving clubs, aquatic centres and the general public. To learn more about Michael and Challenging Pursuits, go to www.challengingpursuits.com.

Michael specialises in remote location, first aid and emergency response and is also a diver himself.

At this stage starting and ending time are indicative and may be adjusted as we get closer to the event.

Total cost for both courses is $335 based on the following breakdown Cost:      First Aid & CPR                 $185                                O2 Administration                           $150

If you do only want to do the O2 administration course, please contact Matthijs at matthijs.smith@me.com at least 3 weeks before the course so we can check with the trainer if your current certification allows you to do this. Late enquiries for this will not be accommodated.
