Vicki’s Pride Dragonboat Association Inc. was begun by a local woman, Vicki Nottage. During her cancer treatment she captained a Dragons Abreast dragon boat team based in Adelaide. She realised dragon boat could benefit people who did not have access to social exercise and planned to raise funds for a dragon boat for Murray Bridge that anyone could paddle with. However, she lost her battle with cancer before she could realise her dream. Her family and friends fundraised tirelessly to make Vicki’s wish a reality, and Vicki’s Pride Dragonboat Association was established in 2004.
After a period of drought when the river was too low to launch the boat, the club went into recess for some years. Then, in 2015, a group of locals contacted Vicki’s family and asked if they could bring Vicki’s Pride out of retirement.
