Timing of Games

Published Thu 12 Aug 2021

It has come to the attention of the Board that clarity was required as to when the clock should start counting down in relation to the penalty corner being played out with the 2 and 5-minute breaks.

The Board has spoken with the Chairs of the CC and OC and discussed this.

For clarity purposes, the following directive is issued to take effect immediately with the intent that this be placed into the Rules of Play when reviewed.

“Timing of games

Central timing of games will be done from the scoreboard console located in the Hockey Office.   Should circumstances arise where this is not possible, then manual timing may occur from the Tech Bench, or by the Umpires controlling the game.

The game clock will not stop for injuries during regular competition rounds.

During the finals series, the game clock will stop for injuries.

The game clock will not start for the period break (quarter/half/full time) until the completion of penalty corner has occurred (eg if a Penalty Corner is called and the quarter/half or full-time break occurs whilst this is being taken, the clock does not start counting down for the quarter, half or full-time break until the Penalty Corner has been completed)”.
