Wolf Rock is one of Australia's best sites to see Grey Nurse Sharks.  Mantas, Leopard Sharks, Eagle Rays and more can also be often seen there, plus eels, nudibranch, octopus and a host of other creatures, however the main feature is the Grey Nurse, which are there year-round.

The plan is to drive up to Rainbow Beach on Friday, Dive Saturday & Sunday, drive home Monday.  Camping will be at Freshwater Camp Area, Cooloola, or you may choose to stay at Rainbow Beach and drive to the launch point each day

Details:

Dates:  Friday 30th April to Monday 3rd May (Labour Day Public Holiday)

Location:   Double Island Point

Diving:  Due to depth, the site is recommended for Advanced Divers only.

  • BYO all dive gear including tanks & weights

In the morning Saturday & Sunday, we will drive around to the other side of  Double Island Point where we can set up on the beach for the day and launch the club boat. Those who want it, usually get two dives a day, however this will depend on numbers and will be sorted out closer to the time. Optimally, 3 or 4 single dives per day.

Camping:   You need to book your own camping.  (Cost is $6.75 per person, per night)

Transport:  To get to the camp ground and dive site, you need a 4WD.  If you don't have a 4WD, but are keen, there are plenty of club members who have 4WDs, and you may be able to organise to travel with them.

*  You will need a Vehicle permit to drive up the beach.  Booking the permit at the same time as your camp booking is the easiest.

* If you are staying at Rainbow Beach you will also need a vehicle permit, as you will either be travelling on the inland/freshwater track, or on the beach (depending on beach conditions).  Follow the links above.

Costs:

  • Accommodation (either Camping or at Rainbow Beach)
  • Fuel: We will spilt the cost spent on fuel to cover towing the boat/compressor up from Brisbane plus driving the boat to the dive sites.
  • Dive Tickets: You will require one dive ticket for each dive you do
  • Air Fills:  You will be required to pay for your air fills, either via an Air Fill Card ($75 for 10 airfills), or $10 cash per air fill.

Tide Times: (from Noosa Heads)

Friday 30th:  LOW: 0432 (0.56m)  HIGH: 1010 (1.61m)  LOW: 1606 (0.45m)

Saturday 1st: LOW: 0534 (0.66m)  HIGH: 1101 (1.47m)  LOW: 1654 (0.57m)

Sunday 2nd:  LOW: 0647 (0.73m)  HIGH: 1202 (1.37m)  LOW: 1752 (0.70m)
