Hi All,

The first cleanup dives under the new grant are scheduled for Sunday the 25th of March at the Gold Coast Seaway.

The plan is to carry out (2) dives with a third,if time and tide permits.

Where: Muriel Henchman Park

When: Sunday the 25th of March at 7am

Low water: 7.41am

High Water: 13.24pm

The first dive will be a shore based dive with Boat cover from Diver 1. The aim is to conduct an Emu parade through the Anchorage that lies to the North of Muriel Henchman Park. The aim is to form a line and swim South to North collecting any rubbish and debris we encounter along the way.

The second dive will be along the Northern Rock wall of the Seaway on the last of the incoming tide. Diver 1 will drop divers in at the mouth of the seaway and then provide surface cover while the divers drift along the wall collecting debris and rubbish.

I will be extending an invitation to both Uni dive & BSAC to join us. If they are keen to get involved Uni dive will do the same as the URGQ on the South wall, using their Boat as cover. While BSAC do a shore based dive along the Pipes.

In addition to these dives, and if time and tide permits, I thought we could have a look around the Octopus houses, and the Northern Rock wall of Wave Break Island.

The compressor will be available for air fills and a BBQ lunch will be provided.

As always volunteers will be required for the following;

1. Someone to tow the Trailer & compressor.

2. URGQ approved compressor operators to fill tanks.

3. Someone to cook the BBQ

4. Boat skippers other than me....

I hope you all embrace this as much as you have embraced the Moreton Island clean up Dives. Liz has set the bar high when it comes to organizing these events, and with your help I hope to continue what she has started.  But without your support and participation, it will be a hard slog.

So please get involved, and together lets show that as a club we have what it takes to justify the faith placed in us by the Department of Environment to help clean up the Marine Environment.

Regards
