UQ Athletics Club 1500m Classic - Celebration Mile
Event information
The UQ Athletics Club 1500m Classic - Celebration Mile was postponed due to unsafe weather conditions on Wednesday the 13th of November. The Meet has been rescheduled and has been reopened to allow for additional entries. If you entered for the the original date you do not need to enter again.
Please note the 1500 metres event is replaced with the Celebration Mile event to clebrate the 70th anniversary of the running of the first sub four minute mile by Roger Bannister. Also check the QA website that indicates the following - " mile times can be used to qualify for the 1500m at the Nationals – click here for entry standards"
When - The event is now scheduled for the evening of Saturday the 30th of November 2024. Entries will Open at 9.00 am on November 15th and close at 9.00 am On November 27th.
Divisions - The meet features only one mile (1609 metres) events comprising Race Walking, School-aged, Masters and Open events. There are two categories for School-aged athletes - 12 yrs & under (born 2012 or later - all athletes must be no older than 12 years of age as at 31 December 2024); or 13 - 19 Years Schools division. It is recommended that athletes are at least 8 years old to register, but preferably 10 years or older.
Prizes - Cash prizes will be awarded to the top five placegetters in the two elite events, with $500 on offer for a new race record in either of the two elite races. Place getters in all other races will receive voucher or product prizes. The top three placegetters in all races will also receive the unique 1500m Classic placing plaque.
QLD Athletics One Mile Championships - The elite Men and Women's event also doubles as the QLD Athletics One Mile championships for 2024, and medals will be awarded to the top three placegetters.
Entry - In order to enter athletes must be registered with Queensland Athletics or another State Athletics Association. Queensland athletes who are not a member of a club, may register with Queensland Athletics as a Base Member by visiting https://qldathletics.org.au/index.cfm/join/
Entry Cost - Cost for entry to the event is $27
Entry Process - The entry process will request a time for the 1500m event. The reason is that most athletes will not have a time performance for the one mile. 1500m times will be used for seeding purposes. But note the event on the night of the Meet will be the One Mile Event. Times submitted will be checked.

After entries close at 9.00 am on November 27th, the races will be seeded. A final timetable will be generated, and with the race start lists, will be posted on the QA website, and emailed to all the athletes who have entered, by the afternoon of November 28th.
