Welcome to the official website of the UNSW Hockey Club. As one of Sydney’s premier Hockey Clubs we have teams for men, women and juniors across all skills and abilities. We are located 2km from UNSW’s Kingsford Campus and have our own brand-new water-based playing surface that is used for training, winter competition fixtures and a twice-yearly social summer series.
We have a diverse membership based comprising of students, associate members, and even junior players. The club celebrated its 70th Anniversary in 2022 which also was our most successful year yet, winning seven premierships including our first ever women’s Metro League 1 title and men’s Premier League 1 title, our first since 1985. We have a proven track record with current and past Kookaburras and Hockeyroos playing amongst our teams.
At UNSW, we believe in having a fun and inclusive culture. Whether you are picking up a stick for the first time or about to play for Australia we would love to have you at the club. If you are looking to get fit and play some hockey or want to make new friends and are looking for something social, UNSW Hockey Club is the place to be with our ever evolving club culture. To learn more about how you can get involved please view our men’s, women’s, and junior’s pages.
I look forward to catching up with all our returning members and hopefully meeting new faces around the ground this year.
Nick Hancock
2025 President
The UNSW Hockey Club was formed in 1952 and is based in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney about 10 minutes from our famous beaches, Bondi and Coogee and 15 minutes from the heart of Sydney's vibrant CBD. Our home training ground is based at the University's water- based synthetic surface at Dave Phillips Oval on Banks Ave, Daceyville (just minutes from the UNSW main campus!). In 2024 we had over 400 members comprising 9 men’s and 11 women’s teams as well as a junior club with 10 teams covering u9, u11, u13, u15 and u17 age groups.
We offer our members and officials high performance, development and social hockey programs, delivered by accredited coaches. UNSW student scholarships are available to elite athletes.
