What is an ocean game??

Underwater rugby - but in the ocean! We usually get in the water and set up baskets around here.

Dive with fish and score on the sandbed. BBQ after.

Bring: Swimmers + towel (Optional: mask, snorkel & fins) - we will provide the rest!

=====What is Underwater Rugby?=====

Underwater rugby is a fast paced, three-dimensional team sport where players jostle underwater to get the ball into a basket at the bottom of the pool. Underwater rugby is traditionally played in a 5m deep pool, however, UNSW also play in a 2m and 4m deep pool.

Each team has 6 players in the water: 2 forwards, 2 defenders and 2 goalies. Each player wears a mask, snorkel and fins.

We will provide spare fins, snorkels and caps - BYO gear if you have any, otherwise, just bring yourself.

=====More About the Underwater Rugby Club=====

Underwater Rugby is a full contact team sport played in a deep pool with players wearing mask, snorkel and fins, aiming to score goals in the opponents’ basket on either end of the pool. We have a Mixed team (the Whales) and a Women’s team (the Platypuses).

The club offers social and competitive games, and skilled players have the opportunity to play for the Australian team at the World Championships every 4 years.

Membership is open to both UNSW students and non-students.

Come see how we play the game, we'll help you with the basics - swimming with fins, holding your breath, diving (only 2m deep), passing the ball around, scoring on the basket.

The UNSW Underwater Club is well renowned as the best way to go down on campus. We offer all you’ll need to duck off for a cheeky dive to procrastinate from study. The club organises regular weekend shore and boat dives, as well as trips away to places like Jervis Bay, South West Rocks, the Great Barrier Reef, and other well-known dives such as the Regent and the Doncaster. We also offer cheap gear hire of BCDs, Regs, Tanks, Wetsuits, Masks, Fins and Weights. Coupled this with a yearly membership fee that’s bound to make even the most recession conscious smile, the UNSW Underwater Club is the best option for the diving fanatic. Whether you’re a student, staff, alumni or member of the general public; you are more than welcome to join us. If you haven’t ventured below the ocean surface yet or have been out of the water for a while, we are also happy to give advice on where you can get your dive certification, as well as refresher SCUBA dives.
