Message from TTA CEO, Nicole Adamson
  CEO Update

Dear Members and Supporters,

I am pleased to officially welcome Rob Gomm, who has now commenced in the position of General Manager, Olympic Program. With Rob on board, TTA is poised to further strengthen our high-performance (HP) programs. Alongside this exciting development, we have now implemented newly defined position descriptions for all HP staff, establishing a clear structure, reporting lines, and accountability.

Our focus is now shifting towards the implementation of new policies in the areas of National Selection and Appeals. We are also working on finalizing the delivery model for our athletes, both domestically and internationally, and refining our tournament planning in line with our categorised athletes.

I had the pleasure of attending the recent Oceania Cup held in Melbourne, and I highly recommend these events to our table tennis community. They offer a fantastic opportunity to witness some of our best athletes in action. Congratulations to everyone involved for making this such a successful event!

Additionally, I attended the Sport Integrity Australia conference in Melbourne, where leaders from across the sporting sector gathered to reinforce our shared commitment to protecting the integrity of Australian sport. I was honored to be on a panel alongside four other CEOs from National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), where we highlighted the crucial role of National Integrity Managers within our sports. Special thanks to TTA’s National Integrity Manager, Helen Haydock, for her dedication to ensuring our sport remains robust and fair.

Finally, I am excited to announce that TTA is a recipient of the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations grant program. Chinese Australians have played a fundamental role in the growth of table tennis in Australia, and fostering closer relationships within our communities is essential for the continued development of the sport. I look forward to seeing this important work unfold over the next two years.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to updating you on our progress in the coming months!

Warm regards,
Nicole Adamson
CEO

LOTE Report Highlights Opportunities to Enhance Accessibility in Ping.Pong.Play
LOTE Report Highlights Opportunities to Enhance Accessibility in Ping.Pong.Play

We are excited to share some of the work we are doing as we prepare for the launch of our exciting new foundation table tennis program, Ping.Pong.Play into Schools, later this year. This initiative is designed to introduce the sport of table tennis to schools across Australia, giving young people the chance to experience the fun and excitement of the game while developing essential skills.

Ping.Pong.Play is exploring new ways to make table tennis more inclusive and accessible, following key insights from a recent report by LOTE Agency—a leading multicultural engagement organization specializing in research, strategy, and communications for diverse communities.

Thanks to support from the Play Well Grant provided by the Australian Sports Commission, Ping.Pong.Play is in a strong position to trial new initiatives aimed at breaking down barriers to participation. The LOTE report has provided valuable findings on how to better engage players from diverse backgrounds, and based on these insights, Ping.Pong.Play is looking to introduce several improvements that could benefit both players and clubs, including:

Multilingual Resources & Communications

  • Exploring the potential for translated program materials, instructional guides, and promotional content to support non-English speaking players and families.
  • Providing clubs with access to resources that help them connect with their local communities.

Culturally Inclusive Coaching & Training

  • Investigating training opportunities for coaches on cross-cultural communication and inclusive coaching strategies.
  • Creating a more welcoming environment to support player engagement and retention.

Targeted Community Outreach & School Engagement

  • Strengthening connections with multicultural organizations and schools to encourage greater participation.
  • Supporting clubs in broadening their reach and community engagement.

The Play Well Grant offers an exciting opportunity to implement and evaluate some of these initiatives, ensuring that table tennis continues to grow as an inclusive sport. By considering these improvements, Ping.Pong.Play aims to enhance opportunities for players of all backgrounds while helping clubs foster a more welcoming environment.

These steps mark an ongoing commitment to making table tennis accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We look forward to providing more updates shortly.
