Women on Water 1 (WOW) is designed to provide the same course content and instruction as our Start Sailing 1 course in a social, female only environment. It is for complete beginners aged 13 and over with an adequate swimming ability. The course has a theory component with the majority practical on the water exercises.

The course cost includes all sailing and safety equipment, as well as 3 months introductory membership with Townsville Sailing Club, which enables students to hire club boats and practice the skills they have learned.

Women on Water is an evening course, running for six consecutive Thursdays.  Bring protective clothing, reef shoes, towel, water bottle, hat, and sunglasses.  A fun social environment to learn the basics of sailing #Sail Like a Girl.  Please arrive prior to 5 pm ready to get straight into sailing at 5.

The cost of the course is $300, which can be paid by Credit or Debit Card at the time of registration.

Course Overview

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here
