Club News
Since we last spoke we have seen many positive signs with an easing of Covid-19 restrictions to a Stage II level, getting kids back to school and a small group gathering being allowed under controlled conditions. For Toowong Harriers members this is good news, as of the 11th of June, The middle distance training group is back on every Thursday evening from 6.00 – 7.15pm. To enable these training groups our athletes and members must sign in / book a place in the training group via the club website https://www.revolutionise.com.au/toowongharriers/classes/ with the Acknowledgment of a number of rules and processes as part of our Covid Safe Plan. This as our first positive step forward as an Athletics club out of the shadows of this pandemic. We are hopeful of being able to re-open the Sunday Open Clubhouse training for members as part of the government stage III restrictions at some time in July, I will keep you all informed.
Still no news as yet from Queensland Athletics as to the restart of athletic competitions post Stage III easing of restrictions. In saying that, the conversation I have had with QA leadership is very much a glass is half full approach that there may still be some form of winter XC competition at a State level. We will have to just wait and hope.
Virtual Competitions
In the meantime we are continuing with our club virtual competitions, It has been Great to see so many of you getting involved in our Virtual XC Series of events. We have completed the first three of our Short Course Virtual XC with the 4th and final short course race to occur on the weekend of the 20th of June.
If you have been competing that is great, if you haven’t now’s your chance to have some fun, join our free club site via Strava and get involved, Tell your friends to get involved the more the better for good competition I say… You do not need to be a club member so lets have some fun with it.
After the 4th short course this weekend we will have the final in our 5 event XC Series a Long Course XC event (4/6/8k’s) on the week commencing the 4th of July. We will then go into a range of more fun based events through July and August to start getting you all thinking about speed for Spring.
- Tan Track Challenge (handicap event)
- Mile'r Club Triple Challenge (400 + 800 + 1600)
If you can’t wait Athletics Australia are continuing run a series of virtual out of Stadia events https://www.athletics.com.au/keep-fit/virtual-events/ starting with a 3km/10km challenge that week for completion by Sat 20 Jun 2020 00:01 - Fri 03 Jul 2020.
We have Good news from our partners at Grill’d Burgers, Indooroopilly and Toowong, whom have offered up some prizes for our XC Series to continue to support the club.
Virtual Events, Real Prizes, Really Healthy Burgers, that seems pretty good. I have attached a copy the current performances to date in this newsletter and will place it on the website.
We have finalised the capture and compilation of all of our Athletes results from the Summer Athletics season, and though we did not have nationals, we had a number of athletes whom delivered national qualifiers with outstanding PB’s. I will be publishing an update in the coming weeks to recognise our athletes’ achievements for the year, Both Senoir and Junior (Little A’s).
