Sailing season 2024-2025
The upcoming sailing season is going to be massive. The best way to maximise your families enjoyment of this wonderful sport is planning. The Optimist class is one of the most popular sailing fleets in the world and therefore has many opportunities to sail locally, nationally and internationally.
Travelling away to regattas can sound daunting, but it doesn't need to be. There are plenty of people to help with boat transportaion tips and advice, chartering and what to expect. Regetta are also a grat way to meet other sailing families and make new friendships. See our FAQs page with more information.
- 23th - 24th November 2022 - PJ Super Series SBSC
This regatta is organised and hosted by the Sandy Bay Sailing Club. It’s open to all levels of sailors and normally has a great course set close to sure for beginners. It usually has great weather and a fun atmosphere – not to be missed.

- 7th - 8th December 2023 Showdown Regatta RYCT
This regatta is a regular on the Optimist sailing calendar and part of the big 3 local events of the seasons – the ‘Grand Slam’ (Showdown, PJ’s, and State Championships).

- 28th November -1st December Sail Melbourne Green / Inter / Open
The Sail Melbourne is a chance to have a sail in a larger fleet before the upcoming nationals. It's organised by Victorian International Optimist Association and hosted by Royal Brighton Yacht Club. It normally has charter boats available.

- 6th – 9th December 2024 Sail Sydney - NSW Inter / Open
This regatta is just like Sail Melbourne and provides an alternate chance to have a sail in a larger fleet before the upcoming nationals. It's organised by the NSW International Optimist Association and hosted by Woollahra Sailing Club. It normally has charter boats available.

- 18th – 21st December 2024 Sail Brisbane- QLD Inter / Open
This regatta is just like Sail Melbourne and Sydney. That said, it will be hosted by the same club that is hosting the nationals. and provides an alternate chance to have a sail in a larger fleet before the upcoming nationals. It's organised by the QLD International Optimist Association and hosted by Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. It normally has charter boats available.

The Association will work with parents & sailors to organise boat shipping, chartering and what you need to do, if you have never been to a Nationals. - 24th & 25th February 2024 - Tasmanian Optimist State Championship incorporating Green Fleet Regatta
It's the blue ribbon event of the season - it's the State championships. The event is organised by the Tasmanian International Optimist Dinghy Association (TIODA) and proudly sponsored by North Sails. This two-day event is open to all Optimist sailors from around Tasmania and interstate. Whilst the event has high-end racing, it also caters to all Optimist sailors with a focus on fun.
