Table tennis pathways to great success

Published Wed 05 Jul 2023

Hi All

Thank you for taking an interest in table tennis.

In Australia, table tennis is a national recognised sport, that has state level and national level competitions, on top of that there are commonwealth games, and the ultimate stage would be the Olympics.

For children in Australia to take the pathway to these stages,

Firstly, the child needs to register to a club, by joining my club is an option,

Secondly, once the child has developed enough skills to compete in a match, all the way down to D grade, to all the way up to A grade, the child needs to register for competition in that club or at other participating clubs. (Small fee, around $48 per year)

Thirdly, the child will be assigned a score, it is a rating score that calculate the points from the matches, if won or lost, points will be added and deducted accordingly.

Fourthly, the child will progress through training, practice, coaching, playing matches and taking part in competitions, there are various state pathway competitions throughout the year, if the child participate in those events and have some success, he or she will be selected by the state team. They also run a few training sessions before the national competition held in early July every year.

Once the child has enough score, and enough success in the state and national level, he or she will have a chance at representing Australia at international level.

Table tennis is one of the easiest sport to pick up, learn, train, and have success, it is fun even if you are not competing in a large-scale competition, whether playing with friends or family, it brings out a lot of fun in the time shared with each another.

The benefit of playing table tennis has its merits, it can train a child's attention skills, performing under pressure, dealing with loss, how to socialise with others, sportsmanship, bring out the child's personality at a different stage/level, playing sport will benefit a child's development in all areas, such as fitness, academically, creativity, and socialising skills.

Lets all have fun, it is such a large part of our life.
