More Information
This program is aimed towards adult participants of all abilities. This program will be a structured 3-day course, where individuals will learn the basics of sailing. An instructor will guide you through this course, teaching you the relevant knowledge and assisting you on the water from a powerboat.
This course is aimed at participants who would like to grow their knowledge in sailing and possibly those who would like to progress through ‘Start Sailing 2’ and then onto ‘Better Sailing.’
Topics covered include the basics of:
- Clothing and safety equipment
- Parts of the boat
- Rigging (setting the boat up)
- Steering
- Sail control
- Speed control
- Launch and recovery
- Capsize recovery
- Towing
- Sailing rules
Who can join?
Anyone 18 years and older can join these sessions. Participants are welcome to sail solo, with a friend or with a carer.
We have a hoist in place during these programs for any participants who may need assistance getting in and out of the sailing boats.

This is the perfect 'taster' for anyone who wants to discover sailing for the first time. This is the perfect introduction and can be the ideal way for you to begin your sailing journey, without having to commit to a full training course.
Course Outcome
Following the course, you will receive a completion certificate.
We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
