Coaches
Martin Brill Olympian, fencer, Olympic Epee Finalist, Oceanic Zone and National Champion, Fencing Master (Maître d’Armes), FIE Referee, and coach at The Fencing Institute, Christchurch.
In 1979 Martin qualified as a three weapon FIE Referee, was selected in the New Zealand Epee Team and fenced in his first World Championships (placed 33rd). He won his first National Epee Championship and was selected for the 1980 Moscow Olympics but was withdrawn due to the boycott of the games.
He was an Olympic finalist in the Seoul ‘88 Games after making the top 16 in Los Angeles ‘84. He and Greg Benko of Australia are the only two fencers to have achieved that. How did he do it? Learn the roadway to success during the camp.
Martin has a personal motto “Beyond skill is mastery” and a goal of “fencing excellence, fencing mastery”. Learn the way.
Bill Ronald OAM (Order of Australia) is a well-known Sydney coach specialising in foil and epee. He is a former Australian National Foil and Epee Champion, Junior Foil Champion and State Champion. He is a Commonwealth Games silver medallist in Foil team and was a semi-finalist in Epee in the same year. Bills students have won numerous state and AFC events.
Bill knows Olympic fencing from every angle. He competed in the 1968 Mexico Olympics in both Foil and Epee. He was the Australian Olympic Fencing Team Manager: Montreal Olympics in ‘76, Los Angeles ‘84, Seoul ’88 and SOCOG observer Atlanta in 1996. Bill was the Event Director of Fencing in the Sydney 2000 Olympic (described by FIE as “The best fencing event ever”!) and Paralympic Games. In 2012 he was the associate Coach Modern Pentathlon, London Olympic Team. He is a past President of the Australian Fencing Federation.
Bill’s core belief: “is the belief that hard work can be fun and should be a variety of work and games. You do not have to be an expert fencer for the programme - just driven by your motivation to push yourself hard to be the best that YOU can be.
Bill follows guidance from Maestro Enrico di Ciolo Pisa, and the problem-solving approach to fencing.
Sarah Osvath, Atlanta Olympian, and Australian National Women’s Open Epee Champion will also be attending and delivering seminar sessions on elite preparation.
