History of Tamworth Softball Association

1977

TSA plays its first competition. Conducted on Thursday nights under lights at Tamworth Showground during winter months. 
First President -Ray Brennan 

1978

Competition playing venue moves to No 3 Sportsground, Kable Avenue. 
Affiliated with NSWSA - Association Official colours - Lime Green / Navy Blue. TSA Representative Teams compete at Northern Division championships. 

1981

Competition playing venue moves to Riverside Fields, Carter Street. 
Grades available -A Grade (6 teams), B Grade (6 teams), C Grade (6 teams).  Thursday Afternoons for Primary Softball and Teeball 
TSA hosts a major "club tournament" called the Norpharm Carnival.  Teams from across NSW compete. 

1984

TSA withdraws affiliation with NSWSA following a dispute over distribution / use of affiliation fees.  Sixteen other country associations follow suit. 
Funds raised are spent developing diamonds at Riverside Fields.  Five diamonds have backnets constructed. 
TSA Representative Teams compete in North West Region competition against lnverell, Narrabri, Gunnedah and Moree. 
TSA 'blacklisted' by NSWSA.  Affiliated associations will not compete in Norpharm Carnival. TSA not invited to 'approved' championships or tournaments and talented players not permitted to trial for state teams.

1988

Following a restructure of NSWSA, Tamworth re-affiliates as an Associate Affiliate and is invited to participate in Northern Region championships. Initial NSWSA allocated colours - tangerine and purple! Changed to gold/ sky blue/ white (City of Tamworth Official colours). 
TSA has some 750 members competing in A, B, C, D and E Grades plus Primary School and Teeball competitions. 
New TSA Constitution and Management Structure developed and introduced. Further 2 diamond backnets constructed. 

1990

First TSA Life Members elected -Dot Shiels and John Green. 
TSA becomes Full Affiliate of NSWSA. 
TSA 'develops' through member accreditation as coaches, scorers, umpires. 

1993

Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) established with softball inducted as a foundation sport. Tamworth is 'home base' for NIAS Softball Program. 
TSA provides competition in A, B and C Grades, U/16, U/14, U/12 and Teeball. A Mens competition is also provided. 

1994

TSA constructs two International Standard Softball Diamonds. 

1995

TSA produces its first 'home grown' NSW representative - Amanda Ostle. Kristy Porter represents Northern Territory at same championships. 
Tamworth Tornadoes established and named by public competition. 

1997

Tamworth Tornadoes wins statewide Waratah League. 
TSA Life Membership awarded to Lawrie Bradbery for long term services to the association. 

1998

TSA Life Membership awarded to Richard Webb.

1999

TSA produces its first 'home grown' Australian Team representative - Stacey Porter, Australian U/19 Team.

2002

TSA Life Membership awarded to Robyn Porter. 

2004

TSA produces its first 'home grown' Olympian - Stacey Porter (Athens Olympics).

2006

TSA relocates "across" Carter Street with construction of major amenities building that included canteen, storeroom, meeting room, etc. Two major diamonds and two secondary diamonds now comprise Tamworth Riverside Softball Complex. 

2007

TSA faces Winding Up/Dissolution due to member apathy. Emergency Meeting held and new committee elected seeking re-invigoration of sport and association. 

2008

Peel River floods with severe damage to fields and TSA storeroom. All TSA records (admin., rep team records, key event records, historic records, etc.) lost in flood. 

2010

Porter Family Diamond named by Member for Tamworth, Peter Draper, in recognition of services to softball and the association by the whole family over many years. Life Member Lawrie Bradbery passes away. 

2011

TSA fields Team at NSW State Championship after absence of 6 years. 
TSA hosts NSW PSSA Boys Regional Championships. 

2012

TSA hosts an U16 club team tournament- "Top Gun Tournament". Sydney and Regional Teams attend. 

2015

Life Member and Foundation Committee Member John Green passes away. 

2016

TSA hosts NSW CHS Girls Regional Championships. 

2023

TSA Life Membership awarded to Stacey Porter (26 years NSW Representation, 22 years Australian Representation, 446 games for Australia [World Record for National Representation]) 

TSA enters U14 Girls State Championships.  First State Championship team since 2011.

2024

TSA enters teams in the State Championships - Over 45 (combined with Penrith), Over 35, U18 (combined with NDSA), U16 (combined with Softball Macarthur), U14 and U10.
