THROWBACK THURSDAY!

This week, we are taking a stroll down memory lane and looking at the former venues that were the home of Tamworth Gymnastics Club! Did you know that we have existed in 4 different venue?!

TGC's first home was the PCYC from 1989 - 1993, where we had very little equipment that all belonged to the PCYC, and we had to set up and pack up each day. We also had to vacate when Country Music Festival was on and our mats became a makeshift hotel!

Our 2nd home was the Peel High School Hall from 1992-1994, where we were lucky enough to have our own equipment (thanks to Carmen and Max McGinnity), but were still setting up and packing down every day. Despite having a sprung floor that consisted of 2 mats on top of each other, we managed to acquire numerous State Champions during this time. In 1994, we were able to move into our first permanent venue at the Tamworth Showground, with our very own inground pit and first sprung floor, handmade by one very clever Dad, Gary Ayre. It was a luxury to not have to set up, but we still had to move out once a year for the goats to be housed during the Tamworth Show!

We made the move to our current venue in 2000, after receiving a $100,00 Sport and Rec grant, that we paired with a $110,000 loan. Our amazing volunteers have fundraised and paid this initial loan off already! Our gym has been extended since we first moved in, and we are constantly making improvements, but it is a very special home and one that continues to create a safe space for kids to enjoy their sport, and for gymnasts to realize their dreams!
