Weekly Wrap Up - Issue 5

What a way to start the second half of the season on a exceptionally hot Diamond 1.
Close to game start time we looked like playing with 9 and an automatic out each time we went through the line-up, but fortunately we received Hazel McKenzie from EJays. Our first inning was our best batting inning for the game with 5 hits including a bounce over the fence to Sarah B.

Singles went to Miki, Nat, Mel and Audrey. Three runs were scored. GW came into bat and it looked to be a quick innings, with the first two being struck out, but then GW had two hits and scored, before their third strikeout. Top of second wasn't as good as the first with only Miki  reaching first after some confusion with the second and first fielders. It was better than GW's second inning though as they had three up and
three down.

Syndal's third inning was a little more colourful in the book, but with an error by second base to allow Sarah W to reach first, all three runs were red. Four hits including a safe bunt to Mel were recorded. The hits went to Kate, Audrey and Steph. GW's third inning was another three up, three down although all strikeouts this time.

GW managed to get under two of our very large shots in the top of fourth to deny the two Sarahs a hit each. And Kate reached first safely after another error at second base. An almost repeat of GW's run in the first was seen in the fourth for the score to reach 6-2 heading into the fifth.
Top of fifth saw a number of fielding changes for GW. The inning started with Mel reaching first after being hit by a pitched ball. It didn't stop her running home though when Hazel came up to bat and hit a double to left field; a missed pick-up allowed Hazel to reach third. Steph's single brought Hazel home. Miki then reached first with an unusual error by GW's SS, whilst Steph reached third.

A single from Sarah B brough Steph home and Miki to third. Some messy plays by GW saw Sarah, Kate and Nat all reach first safely and score a further two runs. Mel came up for her fourth plate appearance and hit another safe hit bringing Kate home for our 12th run. A great welcome-back to Mel!
