Weekly Wrap Up - Issue 2

It was great to get back to softball after the Melbourne Cup weekend however it was a very quiet day out at Jells this week as many of the Open 3 and 4 players weren’t playing due to the PanPacific Games being held in Qld and there not many games being played in those timeslots.

CLUB NEWS

We’ll be putting out details for our new zip-up hoodie very soon so please keep an eye on your emails.

Under 13's

Our coaches this season are Danni & Michael Ramadan. Their results so far are;

Round 1 : Frankston def Syndal 15-10
Round 2 : Bye
Round 3 : Ejays def Syndal
Round 4 : Syndal def Frankston 17-9
Round 5: Syndal def Diamonds 16-15

Our u13 juniors again returned to Knox this week for our match against Blue Diamond. In what was a very evenly contested match, we again saw some great team batting which saw us bat through our nine batters in both innings. Our baserunning continues to improve, simply through listening and watching our coaches for advice, and played a big role in our win this week. Whilst it was truly a whole team effort, a special mention must go to Chloe Branidis, who hit in our winning run when the pressure was well and truly on.

A FIXTURE UPDATE

An extra team has come into our competition which means there are no longer any byes in the competition.

The fixture will be (or maybe has been) amended.

Open 1 Syndal

Round 1: Washed Out
Round 2: Syndal lost to Ejays due to a Forfeit
Round 3:  Syndal defeated Glen Waverley 4 - 0
Round 18 (Night Game): Syndal def GEMSA 8-1

Round 4: Syndal def Brandon Heights 9-0
Round 5: Syndal lost to United 0-5

Welcome back to Jess for her first game, who played despite being injured. Mel GC was also back providing support behind the plate.

From an offensive perspective, Syndal had nothing outstanding to report. We only managed to get five players to first base. Three from safe hits for Steph, Sarah M and Rose, a fielder's choice for Kate and a dropped third strike to Miki but, unfortunately, none of these managed to move further than second base.

United's page in the scorebook was a little more colourful. They scored 5 runs (2 green and 3 red), but fortunately another five were missed, with United leaving them in scoring positions.

Sarah did throw 10 strikeouts, but was pipped this week in the strikeout challenge. United's two pitchers threw 11 - 6 to their young pitcher and 5 to the new US player.

Let's hope winning ways are back with Syndal next week.

Open 2

Round 1: Washed Out
Round 2: Syndal (10) def Glen Waverley (9)
Round 3: Syndal (22) def Raider (2)
Round 4: Syndal (7) def Monash Magic (6)
Round 5: Syndal (8) Def Ejays(2)

Syndal played a very strong defensive game with Ejays only scoring in the last innings. Tight fielding supported Kate who recorded 3 strike outs and no walks.

In the 4th innings, Audrey retired the batting team on her own. A fly to right field, caught by Audrey who then threw to 1st base getting the runner out for leaving on fly - a DOUBLE PLAY. Next batter up and Audrey took the fly catch in right field - a HAT TRICK!!!!!

Hits: Caitlin & Kate - 2 each Nat & Tegan - 1 each

RBIs - Caitlin & Nat - 2 each Kate - 1
