Whats On:

Stingers Trivia 2024 - GLORY

Go for Gold with your team at our annual trivia night coming up on Saturday June 15th! Held at Rocks Brewing Co. in Alexandria, this year's theme will be Olympic sport teams to celebrate the games being held in Paris.

Gather yourself a team of non-stingers, nerdy friends and smarty-pants family members to help boost the clubs support network. Tickets are $40 per person,  and be purchased with these available options:

  • Tables of 4, up to 12 people. Discounts are automatically applied for tables of 10 and 12 people.
  • You can purchase a single ticket for yourself, and we’ll create some stingers teams.

Once you purchase a table you can add on individual tickets as the ‘Maybe’s’ start to confirm later on. Please also respond to the facebook event to keep up to date with the latest comms.

We’ll be showing off the Stingers talent with a performance to rival anything offered by the Olympics Opening Ceremony, as well as raffle prizes and many an opportunity for a game and a L.A.ugh. There will be a special prizes for best team name this year, and the name must include an Olympic Country.

Can’t make it but still want to show your support?

This year people who are unable to attend can support the club through the purchasing of raffle tickets online. You do not need to attend the event to claim your prize, we will contact you via phone, message or email to organise the delivery. Tickets can be purchased as 1 for $5, 3 for $10 or 7 for $20. Head over to this page and scroll to the bottom to buy you raffle tickets.

If you have any questions for the night, can volunteer or gift any prizes please contact Rachel Collier or Angus Graham.

Start of Winter Metro

This winter season Stingers have had our largest demand yet for participants in the Winter Metro competition. Subsequently such zeal means we have entered in a team for each of Division 1 - W2, and Division 2 - W5, W6, M6 and M7. Opening games for the season will be held on Tues 28th and Wed 29th May and you can check out the club calendar for all upcoming stingers events, including games and training. First team training for Div 2 players will be held on Saturday 25th May.

Swim Set

Total Time: 40min with rest

Total distance: 1700m

Warmup:

100 Free, 100 IM, 100 Free.

Main set:

6x100m Free

  • Optional: last 50 of each breathe every 5 strokes
  • 2:00 for 50 pool, 1:50 for 25m

100m Backstoke easy

10x50m Free, every 3rd 50 is sprint

  • Option: break into 2 sets of 5x50’s with 1min rest in between. So long as those sprints are truly a sprint!
  • 1:00 for 50 pool, 55s for 25m

200 easy cooldown

Notes:

  • Based on feedback from the club survey, coaches are limiting the swimming during training sessions to focus on water polo skills. This relies on players taking responsibility for themselves and maintaining their swim fitness.
  • Splashproof and reuse the set - write it up with crayon (or pencil) on waxy baking paper, pat dry and keep in your bag for next time.
  • Adjust the times to suit you, but still aim to push yourself. Suggestions:
    • A bit easier: add 5 to 10s on the suggested times per 50m.
    • A bit harder: minus 5 to 10s on the suggested times per 50m or add 2 more distance intervals (e.g where it says 6x100m do 8 of them.)
  • Send your team a selfie with you at the pool after your set! Be the fitspo to my DMs :)
  • “Stretching is the most important part of my day” - Simone Biles (probably).
