Concurring over Wests 3-2 with the winning goal scored in the last minutes. In 2017, Swifts Reserve and R2 teams both won premierships. Swift’s expanded with juniors from Hookin2Hockey (Hin2H) and 2 junior grades, E and D grades. Swifts Hockey community are excited at this addition and are exploding with pride! Encouraging our little Bluebirds to develop into our next generation Swifts. Swift’s introduced the Anne-Marie Callow Excellence award, awarded to junior players excelling in our great sport and ready to follow in Ammo’s footsteps toward a promising future in hockey. Líle Lenaghan received the first Ammo trophy, being Swifts first junior player representing Queensland. In 2018, the season saw all teams finish in the top 4 with Reserve grade mid-season winners, minor premiers and runners up. D & E grades both made finals unfortunately both runners up.
In 2019, we saw the introduction of two A2 women’s teams due to the numbers of interested players with both teams playing a great season, always friendly and supportive. R2 ladies took out the premiership also being mid-season winners and minor premiers. In 2020, although it was a difficult year for everyone, hockey and sport in general also suffered. Even COVID didn’t stop the Swifts Hockey Club fighting spirit and we were able to field 6 teams, Reserve grade, R2 grade, A2 women, E & D grade girls & combined C grade. We were able to capture a few milestones, we introduced our first men’s team A2 men who amazingly made the final and were runners up. We also became an Incorporated Club. With 4 teams making finals, R2 ladies going down to their competition nemesis Vets and A2 men also unfortunately a loss, but a very close game against Hancocks. We saw our first ever junior premiership our D grade girls coached by Cristle Petersen, over a mixed competitive Northern Western Strikers. Reserve grade ladies, took out the premiership in a tight and emotionally fueled penalty shootout, coached by Cyle Meloury.Celebrating 15 Years! - 2021 year has seen some COVID challenges, but also some distinct successors for Swifts. We had started the year with a maximum of teams including once again 2 A2 women’s teams, A2 men’s, R2, Reserve and A grade women. With our juniors we experienced our first ever year of 3 full independent Swift’s teams, including the first Swift’s only C grade team. Out of the 8 nominated teams we had 6 in the top 4 by the end of the 2021 season. E & C grades, with A2 Men, R2, Reserve, A grade women. Reserve grade and C grade teams made the grand final, both runners up. Food for thought is that Swifts reserve grade went down to Norths highest grade team, they were made up of predominantly A graders, our C grade team was made up of under aged girls and therefore our future in these grades looks exceptionally good. Swifts acknowledge our Qld success with Gracie Dombroski our U 13’s shadow, Sophie Baldwin & Ashlee Pascoe U 15’s Squad, Líle Lenaghan, Hayley Petersen & Kacey Nguyen making the U 18’s Squad. The underdog status of Swifts stays strong as we work hard to ensure successful teams with our low fees and family feel club! Here's to the 2022 season!
