Dear Sunraysia Volleyball Inc. Members,
By now many of you would be aware of the closure of the Mildura Sporting Precinct for the beginning of the 2025 winter volleyball season. Sunraysia Volleyball Inc. committee is committed to ensuring a winter competition takes place in 2025. We will be meeting to discuss our options including a temporary venue etc. on Tuesday evening.
What we know about the issue.
1. A leak occurred from a bubble tap and to a larger degree from an air conditioner on or around the Easter long weekend in 2023.
2. It was repaired once precinct staff discovered it.
3. Eventually the floor began showing signs of water damage.
4. Initial thoughts were that repairs would be of a minor disruption so long as all user groups were willing to sacrifice a little bit of court time each.
5. Further examination by the Precinct’s insurance provider identified that the problem was much larger than expected and the best way to manage the problem would be a complete and full uplift of the playing surface for the entire stadium.
6. We have been assured that the mould that has formed is not airborne and is not a risk to public health and safety.
7. The precinct has delayed the works until the end of term 1 to ensure that sports can finish the current summer season.
8. The works will commence on 7 April 2025 and conclude approximately ten weeks later on or about 23 June 2024 (that is of course a perfect world scenario).
As previously mentioned, the SVI committee we will be meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss our options. We are lucky enough to own nets, balls, and umpire stands. Therefore, ultimately all we need to do is find a venue that suits us. Whatever arrangement we manage to come up with will be in place for the commencement of the winter season on 22 April 2025 until the works are completed. We may need some volunteers with setting up courts etc. depending on the arrangements we make.
