Sutherland Shire Softball Association is deeply saddened to share the passing of Life Member Richard Jones, who lost his long and courageous battle with myelofibrosis. While his loss is felt across our community, we take comfort in knowing he is now free from pain.

Richard was a dedicated and long-serving member of our softball family, contributing in countless ways over the years. He took on roles as a coach, scorer, manager, umpire, and volunteer—always stepping in wherever he was needed. His involvement spanned multiple clubs as well as the association, and his passion and commitment left a lasting impact on so many.

Funeral Details

Richard’s funeral will be held on Monday, 31 March, at 10:00 am in the South Chapel at Woronora Memorial Park.

Following the service, family and friends are invited to celebrate Richard’s life at Gymea Bowling Club (next to the Tradies) from 12:00 pm. This will be an opportunity to share memories and stories over a drink and some nibbles.

We extend our deepest condolences to Richard’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on in the game and the community he gave so much to.
