The Sunny Coast men’s team had a memorable week at the Fluidra Australia Cup, held at the AIS in Canberra. Entering the tournament as underdogs, the team, made up primarily of U18 boys and supported by a few senior players, faced a tough lineup of experienced opponents.
Throughout the competition, they demonstrated resilience, determination, and a hunger to learn. Their efforts paid off as they fought their way into the Semi-Finals, a significant achievement in such a challenging tournament. Facing New Zealand in the Semi-Finals, the team gave it their all but fell short against the undefeated side, setting up a Bronze Medal match against Singapore.
In the Bronze Medal match, the Sunny Coast men faced a strong Singapore team known for their solid defence and sharp counterattacks. The first quarter saw the Sunny Coast holding mostly their own and matching Singapore’s intensity. However, it was inexperience that ultimately turned the tide against them in the second half, resulting in the loss.
The Fluidra Australia Cup provided a fantastic opportunity for the young players to grow, gain invaluable experience, and compete at a high level. The week was a testament to their commitment, teamwork, and ability to step up on the national stage.
Congratulations to the Sunny Coast men’s team for their incredible efforts and for proudly representing our region. It was a great week of water polo and a significant step forward for our young athletes.
