Frequently asked questions

 


What is teeball? 

  • Think baseball/softball except the batter hits a stationary ball sitting on top of a tee (i.e. no-one pitches the ball).
  • Games last for about 60 minutes.
  • The batting team bats until either 3 players are ‘out’ or 9 players have batted.
  • There are 9 fielding positions but teams can have up to 12 players each (so 3 sit on the bench when you field).

What are the age groups?

  • U7 - for children who are 6 or younger on 30 June 2024
  • U9 - for children who are 8 or younger on 30 June 2024
  • U11 - for children who are 10 or younger on 30 June 2024

Is there a minimum age?

  • Strictly speaking, no, but they must be able to participate for the duration of the training sessions and matches. 

Are the teams mixed?

  • Generally teams are mixed. Depending on the number of player registrations, there may be boys and girls teams.

What time do you play?

  • Saturday mornings
    • U7s -  8.30am
    • U9s - 8.30am
    • U11s - 10.15am
    • In Jan & Feb and  games will be brought forward 30 minutes to avoid heat impacted play
  • Players are expected to arrive 30 minutes prior for warm-up and set up.
  • There maybe double header days once a term - dates will be confirmed.

Where do you play?

  • Stirling Teeball Club is part of the Wembley Tee Ball Association.
  • The other clubs in this association are in Balcatta, City Beach and Woodlands.
  • All teams play home and away games.

Where is our home ground?

  • Stirling Teeball Club's home ground is at Birralee Reserve, Bates Road, Innaloo.

When and where do you train?

  • Each team will train for one hour on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday after school at Birralee.
  • Each team will choose its training day and time when they get together at Team Allocation Day.
  • Sometimes, the time/day won’t suit every team member, and the decision may depend on when the team coach is available.
  • The first training session will be scheduled by the coach.

What is the cost?

  • $140 for the first child; $95 for the second child and $65 for the third and subsequent child.

What else do I have to buy?

  • Stirling Teeball Club will provide:
    • the team shirt;
    • pants;
    • belt;
    • socks;
    • and a cap. 
  • You need to provide a glove

When does the season run?

  • The tee-ball season runs for Term 4 of school and for the month of February in Term 1 the following year.
  • Fixtures are determined by the Wembley Tee Ball Association. 

How do I register?

  • You can register and pay on-line via the registrations page; OR
  • You can register in person at Have A Go Day on 31st August, at Birralee Reserve 1-3pm

When do registrations open?

  • Registrations open 1 August.

When do registrations close?

  • Late registrations will be accepted if space is availbale but cannot be guaranteed. 
  • If your child cannot be placed in a team your money will be refunded. 
  • Late registrations may also mean that your child may not be placed into the team they wanted owing to numbers.

New players

  • We need to see each new player’s birth certificate so bring it with you on Team Allocation Day or include a photocopy of the birth certificate with your registration.

How and when are teams put together?

  • The teams will be announced at Team Allocation Day.
  • All players and their families must attend team allocation as all families are encouraged to contribute to their team by coaching, managing, scoring or umpiring.
  • These tasks, and the team’s training night, are usually determined by the team on team allocation day so it’s important you are there to have your say.
  • The Club will allocate players to teams according to a number of criteria which are explained prior to team allocation day.

When is Team Allocation Day?

  • Saturday 14th September at 10.00am at Birralee Reserve.

Can my children play in the same team?

  • This depends upon their age and the availability of places in a team.
  • The Club does try to accommodate parental requests in this regard but it may not always be possible.
  • Younger players can play up into older age groups however older players cannot play down.

My child wants to play in the older age group to be with their friend – is this possible?

  • This depends upon the availability of places in each team.

Other important dates

  • Our AGM and Club Wind-up will be held the evening of our last game - the last Saturday of February.
  • Committee Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 7pm.

Umpiring and Coaching clinics

Level 1 Umpire Accreditation (New Umpires)

    • Level 1 accreditation consists of:
      1. Watching a 75 minute online video prior to attending the clinic (http://www.tbawa.org.au/tbawa/umpiring.html) click on Level 1 Umpire Video

      2. Attending a clinic (as per below) which is a 30 minute theory lecture and a 2 ½ hour practical training session

Level 2 Umpire Accreditation (Already have Level 1)

    • This is for all Umpires who have already attained Level 1 accreditation and wish to proceed to Level 2.
    • Level 2 accreditation consists of:
      1. Completing an online exam, 90% pass mark is required.  In the fair and foul section there will be five questions of which you must get all correct.

      2. Upon successful completion of the level 2 exam (we will notify you) you then have up to three attempts in 12 months in which to complete your practical examination.  When you are ready for a practical exam please email stirlingteeball@gmail.com so we can book and examining umpire to assess one of your games.
