Celebrating 40th years of Easter Fun Run

Published Mon 27 Mar 2023

The Stawell and Ararat Cross Country club will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of hosting the Easter Sunday Fun Run on Sunday 9th April. The event is named in honour of the Late Lindsay Kent an athlete that ran second in the 1964 Stawell Gift. Lindsay ran with the cross country club in its foundation year in 1968, and became president in 1976. Lindsay excelled at the shorter distances but loved getting the family involved in the community of cross country. Lindsay and Mary moved to Stawell after enjoying the Stawell Gift year after year back in the sixty’s, staying was a wonderful decision as they both loved Stawell.

He spent a lot of his time supporting the club. Mary Kent, Lindsays wife said it is an absolute honour for the whole family to join in with the 40th year celebrations. This year the Kent family are sponsoring the 5km Female winners Sash. Belinda Kent, Lindsays daughter is so proud of what her father achieved, and will be there on the day to help present the sash.

The event usually sees around 150 people attend, with some runners returning year to year. ‘It’s a great way for families who support Stawell Gift runners to come along, have a run themselves and have a chance to take away our Random sash’, said club secretary Shevahn Healy. Runners, walkers, and dogs on lead can take on the marked 5km or 3km track. The track is much loved by the city runners, who are able to tackle the local bushlands around Stawell.

The event starts and finishes within the Stawell Racecourse Car park on the day registrations open at 8am with the race starting at 9am. Adults $20 and Children under 16years $10. Not only is there 5 sashes to win on the day, but the club has over $500 worth of spot prizes to giveaway to participants after the event.
