Gibbo wins at the right time.

Gibbo wins at the right time.

Sunday saw a small field of runners take on the Mitre10 5000m handicap. The club has been hit by runners recovering from COVID and few club members took on the Great Ocean Road half marathon. Well done to both Nathan Bendelle and Jess Hunt on their achievements.

The field took off in a mass start with runners pacing each other. Mark Thompson, off his last win, Mark pushing his young family in jogger pram, was able to pace Gibbo home. More to the story is that Mark's daughter lost her hat during the race and Gibbo took a swift turn and sweeped down picking it up. Then Mark wouldn’t let the diversion slow Gibbo, encouraging him all the way home. All runners commented that this week’s race, 2 weeks after the one tree hill race, made them feel sluggish but really enjoyed the course in its beauty.

Once handicap was applied Peter Gibson took home the winner's Sash winning the race with 27seconds over Tess Thompson in second and Shev Healy in third. The win has come in handy for Peter with Building a new home in Ararat, he has spent quite a bit of money at the Sponsors business Ararat Mitre 10. ‘I know where I’ll be spending the prize money,’ said Peter. This win was a wait for Peter with his last win with the club at the beginning of Season 2019. Fastest Male was Gabe Tonks and Fastest Female was Tess Thompson

Next week the club supports another local running event ‘Run the Gap’. Next Club run will be Sunday 29th at Best’s Winery in Great Western. We invite anyone to come have a run with the club no matter your ability. The trails we have around Ararat and Stawell are magnificent at the moment.
