Park and Pipe Community Update - October 2023

Dear Park and Pipe Community,

Our 2023 domestic season has officially come to a close, we hope you all had a great season, worked on your skills, and developed your love and passion for snowsports.

Today sees the final ANC events for the season kick off in Cardrona with a number of Aussie’s competing in both Snowboard and Freeski. Recent Junior World Championships bronze medallist Ally Hickman will look to continue her good form and Freeskier Kai Martin will also be one to watch after he took out the first ANC event in Freeski Slopestyle at The Remarkables in August. Joining Ally and Kai will be 20 other Australians hoping to show off their skills and leave New Zealand with a win. We wish them all the best for the concluding event of the southern winter, you can follow along with the live scores as they are updated with the link below.

FIS Freestyle - Cardrona

FIS Snowboard - Cardrona

Earlier this month the Park & Pipe FUTURES event was held at the NSTC and Perisher. It was a great way to bring the Park & Pipe community together and see all the young talent our discipline has to offer. The participants were able to hit the new NSTC airbag with guidance from Olympians Tess Coady and Valentino Guseli and other National Team athletes and receive coaching on how to improve their on-snow tricks from coaches at Turn and Burn, Team Buller and Mt Hotham Freeski, in what were two very productive days off- and on-snow.

Coming up later in October will be Technical Delegate (TD) Clinics for each discipline, including Park and Pipe. The clinics will be held at the Snow Australia Offices in Melbourne with an online option available for those unable to attend in person. Becoming a TD is a great way to get involved in Snowsport events and competitions both locally and overseas. As a sport we are in continual need for qualified officials to ensure we are able to host more FIS events within Australia. It is also a great opportunity for those involved in the sport to get upskilled and attend events around the world. The clinics will be held over the weekend of the 14th and 15th October, follow the link below to register your interest with more information to be distributed shortly.

EOI for Snow Australia TD Clinics

For those looking to head to the northern winter to compete we are currently finalising the event Expression of Interest (EOI) process and will have an update for you all on competition insurance options shortly. There will not be much change for this season with all competitors still required to have Snow Australia membership and active FIS registration, competition insurance and to submit an EOI form. One change, however, will see all coaches included on FIS entries now required to complete the Snow Australia Level 1 Fundamentals Coach Accreditation (or recognised prior learning) to represent an Australian competitor at an event. More information will be available shortly.

We hope you all enjoyed your season and wish you all the best.

Snow Australia TD Clinics to be held in October

Snow Australia will be holding FIS licensed technical delegate (TD) clinics for each discipline over the weekend of the 14th and 15th October at the Snow Australia office. The clinics will be at no charge and participants are welcome to attend online as well as in person. The clinics will be hosted by FIS representative, Peter Krogoll.

In order to host more FIS events in Australia, we are in need of a larger pool of qualified TDs to be skilled and available for these events. Those who have completed a TD clinic before are encouraged to join in for a refresher course as well.

An expression of interest (EOI) for the clinics is available at the link below, more information regarding session times for each discipline and what to bring with you will be made available to registrants of the EOI shortly. We hope to see you there!
