Snowboard Spotlight With Adam Lambert: Working 9-5 |
What a wild ride the last 4 years have been. Between dealing with injury, managing travel, training, and competing with covid, a World Championships and an Olympic Games all thrown together it feels like we have hardly had time to take a breath! Now, 6 months post games I am sitting down to write this athlete spotlight and I am reflecting on how awesome and lucky we have been to be able to continue doing what we do. As well as the level of commitment we as athletes must put into our craft to ensure we are performing at our best.

We have also seen two FIS JNR SBX Series events held, one in Thredbo and the other in Mt Buller, together with the Transfer Banked Slalom held at Thredbo with a number of Athletes participating from all disciplines of Snowboarding.
The SCWG has set up a TeamAPP profile to help connect community members and improve communication with what is going on during the upcoming events. Simply log onto TeamApp and search for AUS Snowboard Community.

Mt Buller Community Update
Despite poor weather conditions, the second round of the FIS JNR SBX Series took place at Mt Buller on the 14th August. Thanks to the huge contribution from all the coaches, Volunteers, Mt Buller Race and Events Team, and the behind-the-scenes effort from Mt Buller Race Club and Mt Buller for producing a fantastic course in the week leading up to the event.
It was a great event with the younger athletes gaining some valuable race experience. Congratulations to the winners Max Vardy and Lara Walsh consolidating their positions at the top of the leader board. Unfortunately, weather got worse as the day went on and the King of the Mountain (KOM) SBX event, planned for the same day had to be cancelled.
The Buller Slopestyle event was held the same weekend with Alasdair Coates taking out the Mens snowboard Slopestyle comp.
Mt Buller Race Club managed to run the previously cancelled KOM GS on the summit with beautiful weather prevailing over the weekend. Will Martin was the winner of the SNB Jnr Mens and Lara Walsh the winner of the SNB Jnr Ladies event.

The team at Mount Hotham are busy gearing up for what will be a big week between 29 August to 4 September when hosting the Snow Australia SBX Futures, the 3rd leg of the FIS JNR SBX Series and the ANC (Australia and New Zealand Cup) events.
The Futures program, part of the Athlete development pathway, provides a great opportunity for up and coming athletes to obtain some valuable insights where Athletes at the OWIA and NSWIS level share their experiences and provide some of their skill development knowledge.
The FIS JNR SBX Series is hotly contested and Hotham provides the opportunity for athletes to show their skills on a course known for its technical nature, big features and world class length.
The ANC’s return after 2 year break which will provide an opportunity for all athletes from OWIA level to emerging junior athletes to come together and experience racing on a world class level.
