Park and Pipe Community Update - June 2023

Dear Park and Pipe Community,

The season is almost underway in what promises to be an exciting year for the development of Park and Pipe.

Being physically prepared for the season is always key to ensure you make the most of everyday on the slopes. SnowReady sessions, hosted by 3x Olympian Sami Kennedy-Sim is a fantastic program that will prepare you for the season ahead. SnowReady is available on the Snow Australia website.

If you have not yet renewed your Snow Australia membership ahead of the 2023 season, now is a great opportunity to. Membership will be required for all those looking to access the NSTC, are part of the ETP program or named to the National and Development Teams.

For those around Jindabyne on the opening weekend, do not forget to head down to the Jindabyne Snow Sale. This year the Snow Sale will be operated by The Rob Kneller Youth Foundation with all funds raised subsidising the cost of school skiing for Jindabyne Central School and Snowy Mountains Grammar School students in years K-2, increasing exposure and participation within snowsports.

The FIS Park and Pipe Junior World Championships Expression of Interest (EOI) will be closing this Friday, June 9th. We urge all eligible Park and Pipe athletes to submit their interest before the deadline to ensure they have the opportunity to be considered for selection. Click below to find out more information on the event, check your eligibility, and to submit your interest.

2023 Park and Pipe Junior World Championships EOI

This week the 2023 ETP Program attended their first training camp of the season at the NSTC in Jindabyne making use of the airbag facilities in the Park to improve their skills, tricks, and confidence. We look forward to seeing them progress their skills and develop into the next generation of elite Australian athletes. 

This season’s Park and Park Community updates will be delivered monthly with different contributions from members within the wider Park and Pipe community forming these articles. We look forward to getting them out to you all as the season progresses.

Junior World Champs EOI Closes June 9

The 2023 FIS Park and Pipe Junior World Championships will be held at Cardrona Alpine Resort from August 25th to September 8th. The Junior World Championships form part of the wider 2023 Winter Games NZ event which returns for its tenth edition in the Southern Lakes District of New Zealand.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) from our eligible skiers and snowboarders will close Friday June 9. If you are interested in being considered for this event please ensure you submit you interest via the online form below.

2023 Emerging Talent Program Announced

Snow Australia recently announced the 58 athletes have selected to join the Snow Australia Emerging Talent Program (ETP) for the 2023/24 season.

With the program running from May 2023 to April 2024, there are 17 new athletes joining the existing cohort, with developing Para Alpine and Para Snowboard athletes also named to the program for the first time.

Amongst the 58, are 18 Park and Pipe athletes (13 Snowboard and 5 Freeski). See their names and the rest of the full list below.

Whether you are entering your first interschools race or a seasoned World Cup competitor you will need to join or renew your membership with Snow Australia for the 2023 season. By joining Snow Australia ensures your SnowID is active for the season, providing you with access to Snow Australia's event entry portal, newsletters, Snowracer insurance and other perks.

Park and Pipe - 2022/23 Season Wrap

The 2022/23 international snow season was one for the history books for Australia’s Park and Pipe athletes.

The season saw Australian snowboarders and freeski athletes bring home two Crystal Globes, two World Cup wins, seven World Cup podiums, two World Championship medals and three X-Games medals.

Guseli Inspired By Chumpy's Legacy

Eighteen-year-old Valentino Guseli was a stand out at the recent 2023 Snow Australia Awards in Melbourne, appearing on the stage five times over the course of the evening after his record-breaking international season.

With four World Cup medals and a World Championships silver medal from the 2022/23 season, the Park and Pipe snowboarder joined mogul skier Matt Graham as the joint Male Athlete of the Year.

Jindabyne Snow Sale - Opening Weekend

The 2023 Jindabyne Snow Sale will be held opening weekend at the Jindabyne Memorial Hall.

Members of the public and local shops are invited to sell and buy pre-loved ski and snowboard equipment, including skis, snowboards, poles, boots and outerwear at the Snow Sale.

The Rob Kneller Youth Foundation is excited to take over this long standing community event to continue to raise funds for our local kids. All funds raised will subsidise the cost of school skiing for Jindabyne Central School and Snowy Mountains Grammar School students in years K-2 to encourage participation and exposure to the Snowsports industry.
