While we wait for the snow to fall and the parks to be built in the resorts, the NSTC is a great way to get your snow legs in before you head up the mountain. Our community sessions continue each Wednesday and Friday afternoons along with morning and afternoon sessions on Saturdays. You can view our schedule on the Snow Australia website.
We’ve hosted a number of camps at the NSTC Park over the last couple of months which has given athletes the chance to try something new and push their boundaries.
Turn & Burn hosted a camp in early April with 34 lucky campers who had an amazing week on the airbag. There was a great mix of skiers and snowboarders, some of which were new and had not been to the airbag previously. Athletes attended 9 sessions over 4 ½ days and while everyone left the camp having achieved something new, they were also absolutely exhausted by the end of the week!
Two groups of athletes from Mount Hotham Freeski have visited the NSTC over the last couple of months and all had a great time. Even some parents who accompanied the athletes attended a couple of sessions as they didn’t want to miss out on all the fun!
Snow Australia’s Alpine & Ski Cross Emerging Talent Program held their inaugural camp in late April with five athletes in attendance. The focus of the camp for these athletes was to learn, accept and perform in an environment of uncertainty, with sessions on High Performance practices and behaviours, nutritional fueling, how to develop skills of resilience and enhancing adaptability in uncertain situations. The theme of ‘becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable’ certainly held true with some athletes participating in activities outside their comfort zone.
New Zealand athletes who visited the Park late last year returned with enthusiasm in late May to develop their skills and work on tricks before returning to NZ for their winter season.
It’s been great to welcome these athletes from all over and look forward to seeing them improve over the season.
