Snowboard Community Update - October 2024
  intro

Dear Snowboard Community,

I’m Harvey Edmanson from the Alpine Snowboard National Team, competing in both Parallel Giant Slalom (PGS) and Parallel Slalom (PSL).

Currently, I’m in Melbourne, finalising my off-snow preparations ahead of the World Cup season. This involves daily gym sessions focused on building strength and power, as well as cross-training with skateboarding to refine my timing and movement before hitting the slopes again. Balancing training with my work as a façade designer has been challenging, but it’s rewarding to pursue both my professional development and athletic goals.

This past Australian winter, I trained intensively at Mt Buller with coach Leigh Delahoy, taking full advantage of the snow to work on the technical aspects of my riding. With no major races in Australia this season, we focused on technical skills to ensure a quick transition into the competitive circuit.

In mid-November, I’ll be heading to China for pre-season preparations, gearing up for our first races in Mylin and Yanqing. After that, I’ll compete in the Dolomites, Italy, and Davos, Switzerland, before spending the rest of the season in Europe for the remaining World Cups.

This season, I’ll be representing Australia alongside Millie Bongiorno, so keep an eye out for plenty of action from our team! This is a crucial year as it marks the beginning of the Olympic qualifying period so I’m aiming to consistently break into the overall top 30 in the World Cup to secure a spot at the Games.

I was also fortunate to coach some talented young riders in the Alpine Snowboard Futures program this season. I’m excited to watch their progress in the international racing scene—definitely some names to watch in Australian alpine snowboarding!

The World Cup schedule is packed with head-to-head racing, making it an exciting sport to follow. If you’re new to alpine snowboarding, you’re in for a treat with the thrilling side-by-side elimination finals in both PGS and PSL.

Be sure to catch all the racing action through FIS and follow my updates on Instagram - @harveyedmanson

All the best,
Harvey

Please view the summary information below and visit the Competing Overseas page on the website to make sure you understand your obligations.

1. Membership

To compete in cross-country skiing FIS races overseas you must be an Snowboard International Racer. This ensures you have the correct level of membership and are registered with FIS.
