NSTC Update - February 2023

As Summer comes to an end and winter is just around the corner, here at the NSTC we continue to improve the facility to bring the community together for a different kind of experience.

Our “Come & Try" and “Free Intro Feb” sessions during the month, gave members the opportunity to try the facility out and learn some new skills. Members who joined in these activities all had a great time and continue to come along to the scheduled community sessions.

We understand that there is some confusion in the community about who can access the NSTC.  Whether you are part of the local Jindabyne community, a visiting Snowsports enthusiast, or an elite athlete - you can all come along to sessions at the NSTC. Regardless of age or ability, whether you are just starting to learn tricks or want to learn new skills before hitting the snow during winter, the NSTC is open to everyone.

If you’re not sure about what is available at the facility but just want to come along for a look and see what’s involved?  That’s OK …….  Come along, bring the family and we will walk you through the facility and explain how we operate.

For schedule times and bookings, head to the NSTC Park webiste page.

So spread the word and we look forward to seeing you at the NSTC!

The NSTC Team

NSTC Park

We are excited to announce that the DA has been approved for our Clubhouse which will form the main entrance to the NSTC Park.  The clubhouse will have areas to service check-in, safety briefings and video analysis.  Members will also have access to changerooms, lockers and waxing facilities.

There will also be a viewing area upstairs of the clubhouse for families, coaches and members of the public to watch.

We anticipate that community sessions will continue to run as scheduled, however there may be some disruption to the current entrance of the facility during the installation of the Clubhouse.  We ask for your patience during this time and follow instructions from staff when accessing the NSTC Park to ensure the safety of all our members.

NSTC Acro

As construction continues on the John Langley Hancock Building, we have commenced planning for our return to NSTC Acro classes.  Plans have been finalised for the layout of equipment and work will commence on installing the new tramps in April.  We have been working closely with Adam from Mr Trampoline to ensure that the NSTC Acro has all the equipment required to service both our community programs along with high performance use.

We are aiming to have our community classes back in full swing by the commencement of Term 2 and will keep you updated on any changes to the progress.  Schedules will be available shortly for publication and to pre-book online.

The NSTC Acro is an Active Kids Provider, and will accept vouchers as part of the NSW Government Active Kids Program.  The Active Kids Program provided a $100 voucher for parents, guardians and careers of school-enrolled children to use towards sport costs each year.  The current voucher, released on 1 January 2023, is valid until 30 June 23.  To apply for the Active Kids Vouchers follow this link to the Service NSW website for details.

Details on how to claim your Active Kids Vouchers for NSTC Acro classes along with schedules and important information can be found on the NSTC Acro website page.

NSTC Equipment Requirements

To ensure the longevity of our special airbag top sheets, we have minimum requirements for the condition of all skis and snowboards.  The equipment check process occurs once you have checked in and prior to entering the park. We ask that you arrive 20 min prior to the session commencing for the equipment check so that you are not missing out on any jumping time.

Skis and snowboards with any edge splits, cracks or burrs will not pass the equipment check and cannot be used on the jumps.  If possible, an NSTC staff member may file edges on equipment to ensure they are safe to use on the airbag and won’t cause any damage.

All participants will be required to wear a helmet, gloves and ensure that your arms and legs are fully covered.

If you wax your equipment at home before arriving at the NSTC Park, please ensure that you have used a cold temperature wax and have scraped any residual from the base of your skis or snowboard. The purpose of the cold wax is to ensure that a sticky residue is not left on the surface of the topsheet.  Wax is available for purchase for $25 per block.

For more information regarding your equipment requirements, please select 'Read More below or refer to the NSTC Park webpage.

2023 World Championships

The last two weeks has been action packed with the Australian team competing at the 2023 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle & Freeski World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia. The Australian Team was officially announced prior to the event and we have proudly watched and cheered on all the athletes selected.

In particular we enjoyed watching our very own NSTC team member and Freeski athlete Abi Harrigan (SS) compete at the event along with Freestyle Snowboard athletes Tess Coady (SS BA), Valentino Guseli (SS BA HP), Meila Stalker (SS BA), Jesse Parkinson (SS BA) and Mabel Ashburn (SS). All these athletes train at the NSTC and we are extremely proud of their achievements and wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.

For all the wrap up of the event, you can find all the media articles on the News page of the Snow Australia website.
