Alpine Director Update - September 2023

Dear Alpine Community,

With the season now past and the warm weather upon us I want to thank all the resorts, clubs, coaches, parents, and athletes for persevering through a difficult season. While it may have been a difficult season for snow there were still many highlights from both the running of successful events and individual athlete performances and development. Now is the time to recharge the battery, enjoy the outdoors and warmer temperatures, and focus on ourselves, getting our bodies and minds ready for the next season.
We have many of our senior athletes already over in Europe and the US preparing for the northern season, junior athletes can use this time to get strong, fit, and healthy before heading over for training at the end of the school term.

I look forward to seeing some of our ETP and Youth Olympic Games longlist athletes in Jindabyne for an upcoming camp at the National Snowsports Training Centre from October 23rd to 26th. This camp will be in conjunction with Snowboard Cross and focus on understanding your Athlete Profile and where opportunities for improvement lie for each individual.

With most of us enjoying the warmth and sunshine  here in Australia we are not far away from the beginning of the World Cup season, starting with Louis Muhlen-Schulte in the GS at Soelden AUT on October 29th. Following this the ladies will take the stage with Madison Hoffman competing in SL in Levi FIN on November 11th and 12th followed by Greta Small taking on the newest DH course in Zermatt-Cervinia on November 18th and 19th.

Fast skiing to all those athletes competing overseas!!

Shawn

Strong results in Australia-New Zealand Cup

Australia was off to a good start in New Zealand after Louis Muhlen-Schulte scored second place in the first giant slalom race and was pipped off the podium by the final skier in the second. He was the highest finishing Australian or New Zealand athlete in the discipline, securing a personal World Cup quota spot.
