Australian Junior Open returns to Melbourne with entries now open

Melbourne will once again play host to the Australian Junior Open in 2025 with the tournament continuing to grow in stature from year to year.

Following the success of the events staged at Melbourne Sports Centres over the last two years, next year’s tournament returns to the Victorian capital with the venue proving to be a favourite for our best young players as well as a growing army of travelling athletes.

Following a successful event at MSAC in 2023, the AJO went to another level earlier this year with the largest number of entries on record including a contingent of international players who headed to the event from overseas. Across the 10 divisions, titles were taken out by athletes from six different nations.

With the venue also successfully hosting the World Junior Championships in 2023, Squash Australia is excited to see the AJO returning to Melbourne.

“We’re incredibly excited where the Australian Junior Open is headed and with the support of the venue and our key stakeholders we are able to deliver more services and support for the event to continue its growth trajectory,” said Tamika Hunt, Squash Australia General Manager, Events.

“The AJO is registered with the World Squash Federation as an international junior open, and with the quality of players we have seen entering from around the globe - particularly this year - the tournament is growing to rival some of the biggest and best junior events anywhere in the world.”

The AJO was first staged in 2012 is an Australian Junior Squash Tour Platinum event which has helped launch the career of players such as Australia’s number one player, Jess Turnbull who won the event in 2013.

The 2025 Australian Junior Open will be held on 13-17 April 2025 with entries now open. Following a recent survey and due to popular demand, accommodation packages are also available for booking at Pullman Mercure Melbourne Albert Park who have supported all recent events held in Melbourne including the 2023 World Junior Championships (NOTE: Rooms are limited and subject to availability; book before 12 December to guarantee your rate).

The AJO will be one of the feature events on Squash Australia’s National Calendar which will be released on Friday 1 November.
